Bus lug nut torque How much?

How many foot pounds do you tighten these puppys down too? I figure you can go more than a regular car/truck as the lugs are much bigger...

Eat your Wheaties and go for it. the factory manual for my 91 dodge diesel dually recommends 350 '# on 5/8 fine thread studs, that would be clean threads with light lubrication, not some high tech super slime. Larger vehicles with 3/4 studs can tolerate 600'# plus, again clean and lightly lubed, with dayton wheels rember to align the tires (set your hammer next to the tire, rotate thetire and tighten the nust to achive minimun runout) as you tighten the lugnuts on Budd,s (disc wheels with inner and outer nuts be sure to get the inner nuts tight before installing the outer wheels and nuts.
Use a long lever, 150# at 4' is a lot easier than 300# at 2'=600'#. A tire shop's large impact 1" drive will easily exceed 1,000'# of torque, so if your doing your own tire work/wheel changes be prepared with good tools and the proper HD attitude, go slow and be careful.

AGREED!

To break the nuts loose the first time, I like using a 6 foot piece of pipe that slides overtop of my 1/2" breaker bar. It's long enough that i can usually break them loose with just 1 foot. The really tricky ones might require me to jump up and down on the lever. I only weigh about 165 pounds, but i've yet to have a lug on one of my skoolies i couldn't loosen in this manor. Just standing on a 6 foot lever creates about 1,000 lb/ft of torque. Jumping up and down would easily double or triple this number i would immagine.

Think about a 3/4 drive breakerbar and socket for lugnuts, it really, really stings when you over torque that 1/2" breakerbar and it dies in your hands/feet, being superman"stronger than sreel is not all that it is cracked up to be in my humble opinion.
Look around, truck parts and farm supply stores, I have seen large 4way wrenches with a hole in the X that will accept the round end of a 6' Johnson bar, start with the 4way paralell to the ground put the bar in the hole, step on the 4way and pull on the bar and use it to help turn and control the 4way.

loose nuts

I have 1" studs on my hubs for 10 hole "bud" wheels and they take 475#, I couldn't get them loose with a 6' piece of pipe so I went to the local truck stop and they did it, their wrench will go to 750#. I use anti-sieze on my wheel studs. Daytons are much easier if you have them but there is no way to make them look good except what color you want to paint them. Good luck! sportyrick

6 foot cheater pipe on a breaker bar with a hi-lift jack under the end of it=30,000 ft lbs (6 ft*5000 lbs jack capacity) poor man's impact wrench.
