Buying Land to Store Bus

Hello All,

I live in central Florida.
I have a few options to where to park/work on my bus. Feel free to comment.

1. Park bus at local Home Depot near my house. (There are other school buses and trucks being parked there at the moment).
2 Park it at my parents house, 2hr drive away.
3. Pay for storage.
4. Buy some land and turn it into my garage/playground/camping area

Thanks
Raul

where in florida? im in st pete area.. (also have a house in columbus ohio)..

since my busses arent my living quarters I pay for inside storage up north and down here in FL its outdoor for now until covered opens up.

id be concerned about the home depot only because they can tow them whenever the feel like it...

I know of one person who lands a truck in a home depot lot in ohio but made prior arrangements with the manager to do so and it helps with security as this guy is in his truck to sleep when he does it and has cameras on the truck.. so the HD manager lets him do it.. it could be the other busses / trucks you see are actually companies providing workers to the contractors that do work for Home depot...

Hey Christopher,

I'm in winter haven. That's near lakeland.
Yeah, I would probably talk to home depot people if I decide to leave it there.

Thanks
Raul

I wish I could help you out.
Your bus isn't huge so you should be fine. If you REALLY can't find anywhere and don't mind the drive you can use MY yard. I have lots of tools etc.
Maybe we could all get together and do some good work on it together!?

Hey dude,

Thanks for offering. I could probably leave at your place if we were working on something or what not, but I think you have enough having to deal with the city inspectors.

I'll probably bounce it between my parents and the local home depot, until I find a piece of land I like.

Thanks
Raul

If its tagged and insured and fits in my double sized lot, its legal. I've got the fuzz off my back now! Just throwing it out there in case you need a hand.
Storing and finding help are the only two caveats to bus ownership I've experienced.

Sounds like a plan dude. I wasn't thinking about buying a bus when I bought my house.

Anyhow, did u read my post on insurance and title change?
Basically I already got insurance, do I need to worry about changing tittle from bus to RV?

I wouldn't change the title. If you have tag/ins I'd say leave it be, let sleeping dogs lie.

what are the zoning laws like in florida?

can you buy a city lot and park your bus on it, hooked up to sewer or septic? can you do that rural?

id be interested in buying a parking spot over paying rent at a campground. a lot with electric and septic would be cool, close to beaches would be even better.

i assume Florida has some kind of laws governing living in vehicles? i remember years ago a spot out along the California beach where they had to close it because of all the buses/vehicles/shacks of almost homeless people living out there.

i've never been to florida but i'd sure like to come scope it out for a winter camping pad.

I've been interested in this topic. Still haven't figured out where to go though. We'll be almost totally off the grid and can work from home so possibilities are endless.

Looks great!!!

But you put the entry door on wrong side!!!

I've got two foot end clearance and if I pull in, my entry door is on back passenger side of bus... If I back in, it's at front driver's side...

Total PITA, but I didn't build it and the walls are insulated with polyiso so I can't complain...

Except I hate my door location

Rural FL is VERY RV and bus friendly.
Out in Paisley where I'm buying the lot, people have been living in buses and shacks for years.

ANY time you wanna visit, I can accommodate ya!
I'll even cook for you.

I've seen school buses parked on lots with in city limits (winter haven). The ones I've seen are basically in the gettho area. I think I would have to check first the rules.

The closer you get to the beach, the more developed an area becomes, so I would avoid beach all together. Maybe there is some coast land to the north west of Florida, but idk

As eastcoast said, rural area is what I'm aiming for. Maybe 0.5 - 1 acre of land. Price 5-15k.
Still deciding on exact location.

I would probably make my own septic system with large plastic barrels. Dig my own shallow well. Electricity is the only utility I would need.

I'll check the area my lot is in, they are CHEAP. Electricity is available, wells are optional.

I've never been to Florida so I've got a really stupid question....

Is most inland soil actually dirt or is the entire peninsula pretty much sand?
Oklahoma actually has a desert sand area in the Western panhandle, then very red clay soil around central Oklahoma City area.... Here in the east, we got DIRT & ROCKS!!!
