California bus ownwers.....Just saw....

And spoke with the owner of a Blue Bird Wanderlodge. I told him we were heading to CA. next month and he said we'd lose our bus because CA. requires all visitors to take a smog test. I laughed.....You CA. guys have anything on where this mis-info? would come from.

Also my S.O. has an AZ MMJ card and will be bring some meds with her. What's the law on this please. FYI she's fighting cancer and it's really been a big help to her.

Thanks all.

I kind of doubt the new CA emission requirements apply to out of state recreational vehicles but then again it is California so who knows! It's been a controversy for commercial vehicles entering the state though.

Dond,

It's a busted urban myth. That CA guy does NOT know what he's talking about. Was there this summer, NO SUCH THING......

He is probably referring in some way to the air resource board mandate for diesel vehicles that is being phased in. If you are permanently relocating to CA and register your vehicle/residence you are going to run into problems. If you're just visiting from another state, make sure your legislature doesn't get any of those bright ideas from CA.

As far as needing a smog check the worst they can do is turn you around at the border and tell you to pound sand. They can't take you rig because it doesn't meet their standards there is no way that would even fly under civil forfeiture laws. They sure as hell can not let you register your rig in their state, but as a private coach/ RV I believe you don't even have to be CARB compliant or there would be even more California homeless.

The emission laws for commercial diesel vehicles do not apply to motorhomes.

My understanding is that heavy commercial vehicles, even those registered out of state, would be required to comply with the rules (and thus you see the CA-compliant sticker showing up on trucks across the nation). I'm not sure how they go about implementing that, though.. deny passage of the vehicle at ports of entry? I think crazycal is right; I think I remember reading about an exemption for motorhomes and other low-usage vehicles..

There are new emissions laws in California that are keeping many commercial truck owner operators out of the state because they don't meet the new standards. If I remember correctly it is affecting all diesels not using DEF. I would have to do some digging though to find the exact specifications. I believe that the state can shut them down on the spot. I have not heard that this applies to non-commercial vehicles though.

BTW have you seen some of the ratty old things with Cali plates.

AZ has amazing MMJ... Plus none of the other nanny BS. Our property tax last year (in the county) was $135.

Any private vehicle that meets emissions for the year it was sold In the state that it is registered in is legal in CA, as to the MMJ issue, no clue about that

Posts about transporting MMJ will be edited or deleted. Personally, I don't care but the act of transporting is a crime. You will need to do research on this topic elsewhere.

I sent you a pm with the info that was deleted. AZ's MMJ is ok but not great and certainly not the worst.
If you don't want to take medicine with you you can always buy some more medicine while you are there.

Correct, there are different rules for commercial vehicles than private ownership vehicles and this whole thing sounds like someone doesn't understand the difference or else thinks his wanderlodge makes him a trucker.
