Crazy Chit That Goes Thru My Head When I'm Drinking
So wife & I are sitting on the porch having our 2nd glass of wine looking at & discussing the Bus. I get this idea of possiblly installing an intercooler, so i'm thinking I could pipe it out & mount it on the roof between my two stacks OR I could build a fiberglass box mount it where my muffler used to be install the intercooler there & on the days we're traveling all day I could fill the box with water & dry ice.
Are any of these a good idea OR should I stop drinking??

I'd say drink more. I get my fair share of eyerolls trying to work out some "outside-the-box" ideas.

I say yes to mounting a small inter cooler up there.

Looking at intercoolers on ebay they don't list the port size, are they pretty much standard?

How big you looking for?
You should be able to get one from a split rad international fairly cheap.
Nice and sort, not too tall.

Intercoolers come in every shape, size and configuration imaginable. Likewise the inlets & outlets. If you can find an engine like your own that has one, it would be a good place to start. If not, generally, bigger is better. The only real possible downside is an arrangement that creates too much pressure drop across the system. Check with any of the actual IC manufacturers as they can provide specs for just about any engine.
NOTE: Most of what you see online are retailers...not builders.
