Cut wires to rear running lights and now bus won't start

I cut the light to my 1987 Bluebird School bus(short bus) and now my bus won't start. I connected the wires back together via wire nuts and it just doesn't do anything to start I try to Ed a few things and made it to a point where my starter finally clicks but it does not turn over and it drains the batter down to low quickly. Could this be party of a security shut down? I am confused as to what I should do and need some help. The engine is a Chevy 3500. Any suggestions or help I'm much appreciated!! Thanks

Is your engine a 350ci? The 3500 designation is a chassis weight model. If you cut wires that didn't fix the issue when you hooked them back up makes me think that is not related to the issue. Check any fuses that may have blown when you cut the wire.

My first thought is that you cut the interlock wire that keeps it from cranking when the back door is open. Now that you have reconnected the wires it sounds like maybe you have a dead battery.
