De-Schooling Your Schoolbus?

This stemmed off another thread but how much do you need to do in order for your skoolie to be legal to drive right off the lot. Insurance of course but the school letters, paint, etc. What needs to be removed?

It varies considerably state to state. It is also dependant on how the bus is equipped.

Here in WA you can leave it yellow but, if it seats 16 or more OR it has a GWRV of over 26k # you will need a CDL. Removal of the stop sign and flashers and obscuring "school" is also required.

If you fill out your profile we can better answer your questions.

As a general rule (and by law in most states):

Remove/cover/obscure "School Bus" lettering
Remove/cover/disable flashing lights, stop sign, arm, etc.
Repaint to a color other than school bus yellow. Some states allow other shades of yellow, others want no yellow at all regardless of shade.

Most states will allow transport long enough for a repaint.
