Re: Dirt cheap bus

I honestly wouldn't mind undertaking a hot rod bus project. I just don't care for a lot of stuff on that one. The chopped look is cool, but they should have taken material out from below the windows for instance. Also, a FWD Eldo frame? If you're going to use an Eldo frame you might as well keep the 500 cubic inch monster that was supposed to be there, not that a 430ci blown Olds can't get up and move.

They're probably twisting the facts a bit and probably used a Toronado chassis, hence the Olds motor,

Re: Dirt cheap bus

It would be essentially the same chassis in either case. Heck, even if it was a Toronado chassis I'd still like to see a big inch Caddy between those frame rails or a 455 Olds. I have a hard time believing that building a blown 430 inch Olds was any cheaper than building any of the other choices. I think I need to start the search for a builder bus...

Re: Dirt cheap bus

I think this one from one of the other posts would make a nice starting point

61 IH bus on Craigslist in WA
by TikiBus on Mon Dec 08, 2008 6:47 pm

http://spokane.craigslist.org/rvs/949112926.html
This bus is about a half hour from where Im docked, any interest?

I love Olds motors and the 403 is a mean one can't imagine with a blower on it but the whole front wheel drive thing just ruins, how are they gonna do wheelies with their bus?!!

Re: Dirt cheap bus

The Olds "430" is probably no more and no less than the 425 that many Toronados were built with. It's better for a blower than a 455 due to the forged steel crank (455's had cast cranks).

The original ad in the link says 403 olds but it got transposed into 430 somewhere in this thread

Re: Dirt cheap bus

Ye gods...a 403 with a blower is a hand grenade. 403 blocks are Oldsmobile's weakest, with gray iron crankshafts, hollow main bearing webs, and thin cylinder walls.
