I think this sounds like a fun idea but I'm only staying if you name it "Uncle Steve's".

OK maybe I'll still come even if you don't...

I know i haven't been too shy about working on my bus in parking lots, but that's repair not really build.

Really interested to hear what you decide!

Also any hardware store in the area?
Full hookups will be available. Shower and laundry facilities next year.

I love this idea. We'll be on the road full time in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future, and having a friendly place to work on the bus for as long as we need to would be a blessing.

Thanks for doing this Steve and I hope it works out well for you! If we ever go through there, we'll be sure to check it out. Where we're at, it's so cold, I'm having to fork over for indoor storage space to work on it.

You might want to entertain a giant mechanic-style garage/building as an option down the line, if there's enough interest -- maybe a more limited version of what Colorado Custom Coachworks offers people, with being out of the weather a huge factor. Maybe even tie in some small cabin spaces so people have a place to sleep while they work on their bus (for a surcharge/different fee)... all kinds of ideas.

And while you are at it...espresso machines...massage beds...150 cable channels...shuttle service to the airport...and closest casino...free turn down service including those little mints on the pillows...continental breakfast...a Tardis like parts department (bigger on the inside than on the outside) with every single bus part for every single year and model...a hot spring that makes me 30 again...

a maker space is a place where you can rent space, shop time, tools, even take classes, collaborate and trade knowledge / work with each other for hobby / business / etc.. I could see a maker-space for Vehicle and RV builders being a real cool thing in the right area of the country.

Hey Christopher,

I am visiting my children for the next five-six months without my bus. Where do you park your bus? Is there a mechanic that works on your 1992?

Thanks,
Celeste

Well, I flew out to Kansas and looked over the property.

It has good potential but there is a dispute with the neighbors over a sewer line that must be resolved before I make a final decision.

Weather was perfect. Beautiful small town with friendly folks.

This may have already been said, but make sure your plans include creating a park that people who have no idea what a skoolie even is would want to stay at. You are not going to survive on this demographic alone, even with our worldly ways and sophistication. Offer competitive amenities (playground, convenience store, etc.). If I need a longer term place, you have that available. And if I happen to show up needing a fix, you da man with the tool rental and space!

Wishing you all the luck in the world. If I ever get a bus and you ever get a campground, I promise to come visit.

any updates..this is a great idea, i have been a diesel mechanic all my life and will be retiring soon. i would like to see a place like your talking about, to stop by stay a while maybe lend a hand or at least share some knowledge to someone building their bus. i thought about something like that at my place here in missouri.. but i am kinnda way off the beaten path that and no facilities or the funds to build them put a damper on my plan

Unfortunately the sewer issue turned into a battle with neighbors. I am not going to get in the middle of that fight.

I did buy a house with bus parking though. Plenty of room for a 40'.

Anyone want to rent a house with a place to work on your bus?
