Do you really have to get rid of the stop arm and lights?

I have been driving my bus around for two years and still have the original lights and stop sign. Just because I have not had a problem yet, doesn't mean that there isn't a smart cop coming on the job sooner or later. I've been looking into road trips to much further places and am wondering if it is a good Idea to remove them. I have tried to find the exact laws for this, but I can't seem to find anything. I'm looking for Nevada and Wyoming laws specifically regarding this, but if anyone has more info as well it is welcomed.

Was this the dumbest question ever? Seriously...nobody has any thoughts or actual info? I love the stop sign and lights and I'm gonna keep 'em till they pry it from my cold dead bus.(or warm dead bus, or cold or warm working bus,or just until I can't afford the tickets.

In Minnesota...yes, you need to get rid of them by law. Are they ever going to pull you over for not removing them? I don't know. I do know that our fines are steep and our troopers not always the friendliest. My wallet isn't bottomless so I chose to avoid any issues.

My bus is pre-stop sign so I didn't have to worry about that. I've never read any kind of law in Michigan that the lights have to be removed. When I got my bus they had been disabled, but reconnecting one wire in my electrical panel fixed that.

I'm not dumb with them, I only use them when I'm parked somewhere. I haven't had a problem with them in the 4 years I've had my bus, if I did get a ticket I'd fight it. I've had people tell me stories about getting ticketed for having them, but I think it was more of a case of an asshole cop looking for an excuse to pull them over.

I got rid of my stop sign, but I still have the lights. I'm going to replace the front lights with offroad lights. I'll have some flood lights in the back.

We're going to be taking our bus across nearly twenty state lines before we settle in New Mexico, so to be safe we've disabled the front lights. The rear lights we patched in as extra running lights and turn signals. We've put them on switches so if we do get pulled over we can disable them for the remainder of the state. The gentleman we bought the bus from actually asked that we remove the stop sign and return it to him since the motor was worth quite a bit. We didn't mind since we know in PA you're not allowed to have them if you're not a legitimate school transport, and we're trying to make every effort to distinguish ourselves just so we don't get pulled over.

When I bought mine from the City of Harrisonburg Va, the guys in the bus barn told me state law required the lights to be removed or painted over, only certain vehicles (police, fire, ambulance, school buses) can have forward facing red lights. And the stop sign HAD to be removed. The simple answer for the lights was to just cut the wire and paint over them.

Forgot where I read this, but some state(s) it is not legal to keep the bus "School Bus Yellow" and MUST be painted...

No stop arm on mine (too old), but I set up the rear lights as turn signals. Fronts I removed & paneled over.
