EGR valve?

I just noticed my EGR valve is not hooked up on my 1987 Chevy 66 passenger Bluebird bus it has the 366 gas engine and a Holley carb, electric choke , no governor.

Anybody know how or where I can hook it up I remember reading long ago they run better and get better mpg if operational, what controls the EGR other than manifold vacuum ?

exhaust gas recirculation valve.is it just hanging there with the wire on it?Doesm it look like it goes into the exhaust? maybe someone put new pipes on it and didnt put it back in?Helps with idle and accelleration not sure how much with a carbed engine....

It's worth a considerable boost in gas mileage if the engine is tuned properly! If my Caddy didn't have one, I'd add it.

I can't believe an operational EGR will make it run better or more efficiently as it introduces inert exhaust gasses into the intake displacing fuel/air mix resulting in less power, but also less oxides of nitrogen from lower combustion temperature. A blazer I had ran like crap when the EGR solenoid stuck in the open position, a little carburetor cleaner, and an unplugged connector, problem solved. (don't tell Al Gore)

EGR permits more timing by cooling combustion...with full vacuum advance, my Caddy runs close to 60 degrees timing. That (and 3.08 gears and OD) is how I manage 17-18MPG from a 540ci engine.
