FE vs. RE - pros and cons...

I would like some input on engines. Front engines vs. rear engines.
(Eg.) Pros and Cons. Does one require more maintenance than the other?

Re: FE vs. RE - pros and cons...

RE ride much better and are considerably quieter.
[edit]

Oops, that doesnt seem to be the question you asked. An engine is an engine, front or rear, doesnt matter.

Re: FE vs. RE - pros and cons...

in relation to FE vs RE in a flat nose bus

FE is a lot louder and has a "dog house" to crawl over

RE is a metric crap ton quieter

FE has a back door, which we use all the time (emergency exit for bedroom and all around door for exit)

RE no back door

RE easier to remove and I will guess with what I have seen probably easier to work on

Re: FE vs. RE - pros and cons...

RE has more usable space underneath,no driveshaft or exhaust system
In a Blue Bird RE has larger entrance steps.
RE doesn't have a doghouse in the way to get to the driver seat.

Do note that front engine dog nose buses do not always have a dog house. If they do it is much smaller than a FE flat nose dog house.

My current main bus is an RE and although much quieter for the driver while going down the road I would run my old FE bus sometimes for heat or power and you wouldn't want to try to get some rest with the RE rumbling underneath you. I also think there is much less access to the RE engine, but that depends how the engine cradle swings away.

For sure the extra space underneath a RE because there is no driveshaft tunnel is a plus.

Re: FE vs. RE - pros and cons...

sometimes its harder to find a RE bus, at least in my neck of the woods, if I was to build another bus, I would go with a RE
