Good friends and family are not overrated..

Last year lots of people said they were bummed out when I announced I wasn’t going to have a Christmas gathering, that I was going to go to south beach instead..

After all the “we are upset” , I cancelled my hotel rooms and stayed in Ohio, cooked for days , I love to cook and have holiday gatherings, it’s a passion of mine..

When only a couple people bothered to show I ended up really bummed..

Enter 2018 holiday season, I had a thanksgiving gathering, small by design, I announced then that’s there’s not going to be a Christmas party on Christmas Eve,

Again came the oh we will be bummed.. I said maybe I’ll reconsider .. there were all kids of holiday events and attractions I wanted to do, but it seemed like each one I ended up on by myself. Even the red Byrd north trip several backed out.. so I went by myself ..

After I posted pics I got the “ oh that looked like so much fun “and “I would’ve gone if I knew you were gonna climb mountains and ride locomotives”..

I didn’t know that’s what we were gonna do.. the beauty of a fluid group we had was just that. Fluid.. the host said “wanna go up the mountain?”.. sure let’s go!

When my 50th birthday came and went on the 11th , not a damn single person took me out to dinner let alone the “you turn 50 this year this will be epic!!” That I was lead to believe it would be.. I envisioned at least a group of us sucking down drinks and feasting on yum yum at the Cheesecake Factory restaurant..(one of my fav places to go)

So that’s when I decided to heck with everyone and would just hop in my bus and go ..

Turn negatives into positives I like to do.. so do a couples days prelim work in Atlanta to help out. My install team that arrives weds, and then go wherever ..

It was awesome hanging with EC last night , chomping Waffle House and riding his shorty bus!

No idea where I’ll end up today and tomorrow, right now I’m enjoying walking on the I drive I n Orlando despite my allergies giving me a bit of a fit .

I’ll roll someplace today and chill, if someone wants me to roll their direction to hang for a few I’m all for it .

I tweaked my back HARD a few days ago, I'm feeling quite a bit older than I should right now!

Christopher if you're looking for somewhere to go we're over in Weeki Wachee.

what a great trip i had... a little shorter than i wanted, but my Parter with "supposed connections for rooms" in south florida didnt come through... grrr.. oh and the weather forecast for 4 days of rain and wind made my decision to head back north...

I had a great time meeting friends old and new, skoolie and non skoolie, and the bus ran FANTABULOUS...

the bus ran the grades in the nountains of virginia / WV without a flinch... my EGT's did get up there in the higher elevations where the turbo couldnt muster out as much oxygen into my cylinders.. I hit 1200 a couple times but backed out slightly and it went right down.. im told by the seasoned 7.3 guys that you can run 1250-1300 for a long time but 1400 only for a minute or so.. I just backed out at 1200...

on the longer grades at the bottom, it stayed below 1150, running about 63 or so buried.. (63 in 4th gear runs it at just about 2400 RPM ). 21 lbs of boost and fueling at 14.6 gallons per hour... im "supposed" to be running a wastegate at 19 but according to garrett my turbo is designed for 28-30 sustained.. the ford guys pull close to 40 lbs without issues to the head gaskets.. so im going to let it pull 21-22 lbs of boost..

if it were summer my cooling system WOULD be undersized for running long grades at wide throttle.. even being 50 degrees out the fan kicked in a couple times,, and that being with me driving in my normal winter fashion - the heat on nice and warm, and the driver window open.. so i was pulling extra heat off the engine..

the full radiator / CAC swap is in the future for this bus. or at least an aux radiator if I cant find a rad / CAC combo to fit correctly.

I also dont really have any business pushing an older engine that hard on the grades.. but i wanted to find its limitations so I ran it hard.. normally id be satisifed with 55-60 on the uphills.. much better than the 48 or so it did previously on those steep ones..

interesting tidbit is that with the computer programmed for a lockup transmission, when you let off the accelerator and go into decel, the engine actually shuts off... goes to a 0% pulse width on the fuel injectors, until you touch the pedal or reach a slow speed.. on one long downhill i watched my EGT's go all the way down to 150 degrees or so..

another 2600 mile trip in the books!

hard to believe as much as i drive my busses nowadays that I once let a cute little bus sit for years in a garage all but forgotten till a fire damaged it beyond repair...

yeah, its what I get for relying on someone else to "set me up".. in the past I always did my own calling around to see who's hotel i could crash at for cheapo rates.. this time I didnt.. shame on me... then again I had some parts i grabbed from WPB that need to go to a site we are doing first of the year ..

and even though my trip was short it was fun as heck and productive..

Wish I could have found a door along your route that you could have dropped off to me on your way through.
