Ford Diesel

Hello, new to the forum. Helluva site you have here. I am an avid Jeeper and after burning up a trans 180 mi from home I went on the hunt for a tow rig. My in laws had a skoolie conversion 66 international and I always loved how odd it was. So I decided the short bus was the route to take.

I have the opprtunity to pick this one up for 850.00, it is a 95 Ford E350 Diesel. Looking for comments good or bad, what engine it should have, is it worth it, good trans for towing ~6K (it is auto), etc.

I have many more pics of interior and underbody if it will help identify.

Thanks,

JJ

Welcome to the forum, I myselfe am new here too only a few weeks.
For 850 you cant say much, if it is running I would buy it, however I dont know what kind of requirements you have down there to get it legaly insured. You might have to put in a bit of money to pass a inspection.
This truck being a 95 should have the 7.3lt Powerstroke diesel, overall a pretty good engine if you do your regular maintenance. We drive these kind of units in our ambulance service a little bit smaller but probebly at least as heavy as this unit, they still go pretty good up the hill, a big difference to the previous regular 7.3lt asparated diesel engines.
We get around 20-24 lt/100km (dont know what that is miles/gallon)

Good luck with your adventure

Welcome to both of you......alot of info on this site, with a whole lot better attitude.

Anyways, Jesse-James, I dont know muich about the shorty buses but I do like to trail ride. And hate the idea of breaking something and not being able to get back home. Drove my scout back and forth to the trails for about 6 years before I bought my bus. Had to leave the scout one time at a motel in town where we wheel. Then I bought my skoolie and enjoy it alot more. Dont have to worry about getting home and it has plenty of power and its alot cheaper than a newer dually. Although I have gone into it a bit more than you probably want to.

The 7.3 from what I know, most everyone likes.

So, again welcome to the board, have fun.

So whats so bad about putting a 22RE back together? Unless it was majorly broken to start with. A friend of mine and I put one together and installed it and got it running in a weekend.

The problem is that I took it apart last fall and haven't worked on it since so there is a mes of parts everywhere. The mechanical parts aren't really an issue, but there sure is a mess of wires going every each way.

Here comes the hijack, but....

I put it all back together once with a new Nippon head, OS valves, timing set, etc, but now I want to tear it back apart and throw some new pistons in there along with new bearings on the crank and a new cam. When I start thinking about that then my head really gets to working on the idea of running dished forged pistons to drop the CR, fabbing up a turbo manifold for a T3, and rigging up a Megasquirt with Ford EDIS spark control, etc etc etc. Unfortunately it all starts becoming a bit much when I just want to drive the darn thing.....
