Full timer & pet adoption...
I miss my buddies bad!!! Super bad!
I need to adopt a poodle, I've never adopted before, so I don't know the process...
I've located a silver poodle in Memphis and I emailed the organization. Waiting on response.
Does anyone have any feedback from previous experiences?
Do shelters frown on full timers because we're "not stable sticks and mortar folks"?

I'm more the pit bull type myself..... Brandy is a pit bull/chocolate lab mix.
If you can provide a good home for a dog I can't see why they would turn you down... my adoption experience when I adopted my dog was pretty good, though I wasn't fulltiming then so I can't say if it would really make a difference or not.

Never thought I'd be a poodle guy, it just turned out that way with the divorce, kids got too busy, etc...
After the divorce, we became inseparable. Zero shedding is a bonus.
I had a really tough time walking away from this little guy at the end of June/first of July... But, I had just bought the bus and was needing to focus on making it livable and being in it within a month! I felt I couldn't devote time to training a puppy at the time, and the window would close on me.

Ohhh that face..... how can you say no to that face?
That said, I got Brandy when she was 11 months old because I just don't have the patience to go through housebreaking. She'll be 3 in April and we're inseparable.

The owner was a guy I'd bough a kayak from, we've stayed in contact for the coming up litters... Both parents were on site, and I spent a lot of time with the father. Mother was heavy pregnant and not very active.
It was tough walking away, I tell ya! But I wasn't stable enough at the time, and it's not fair to the dog/puppy. I had to set instant gratification aside and be reasonable.

Yea I get that.... wasn't saying I didn't understand it, but THAT FACE.....
I just wonder how Brandy will take to fulltiming. Will be a bit of an adjustment, for both of us.

Dixie has been helping us work on the bus, and in her free time she climbs trees.

when you are full-timing what do you do for climate for a pup? I realize some type of Heat is a must for your plumbing and such, but it seems alot of people are off the grid and not using A/C and such all day when they are gone... even with insulation it gets quite hot for a pup inside on a hot day...hotter than what a simple fan vent is going to make comfortable...

nice! i have a standard poodle mutt. and the first time i came home from the groomers after getting the "full poodle" done, i was hooked. i never could imagine myself being a poodle guy, but now i have standards.
i have a tiny yorkie and the standard poodle. no one knows i have the poodle when camping, he's a homebody and doesn't venture out. the yorkie on the other hand is very social and i have to tie her up.
after my former dog passed, i had a hard time adopting a dog. there are all kinds of "dog rescues" and i applied with a number of them and was always turned down. i live on 5 acres, in the country, and was turned down for a number of reasons. no fence, no family..... i tried a number of different rescue places. they weren't very anxious to place their dogs. the fees were high and the rejection was real.
i found my poodle mutt for free on craigslist. had to drive a 100 miles for him but that was ok.
we've been happy since.

Good news!
After reviewing my application, they emailed me back to see if I was interested in taking 2 silver poodles... Of court I said "absolutely" but added the disclaimer that I'd like the terms to be reviewed as I didn't intend spending twice the money. We'll see where this process takes me, I've never adopted before.
Having 2 poodles, I picked up a very expensive pair of Andis clippers and several sets of blades... And it proved to be money well spent as I prefer a "sheep cut" over a "poodle cut"
I've got some early pictures of Shelby & Goldie.... Shelby looks exactly like Izzy below.
Izzy, 5 y/o female
Sophie
4.5 y/o female

If for whatever reason this falls through, you might try rescueme.org.... it's like a nationwide bulletin board of dogs for adoption, pretty much every breed is represented and you can search by state as well. That's how I found Brandy.... it's all subdomains so you'd search (breed).rescueme.org, so for poodles it would be poodle.rescueme.org. Once you get on a page, there's a link to change breeds, or even species if you want to (cats, horses, goats, rabbits, farm animals, reptiles, pretty much anything).

I've never had to look far to find an abandoned, neglected dog needing some love.

Sad but true, they're all too common these days. People take an animal in, then for whatever reason they just turn it out into the cold cruel world. Sickening.

But also in a responsible pet owner's defense, I was reading a lot of the poodle's owners either had passed away, or were too sick to care for pet. One guy's wife had passed away, and the guy was moving in with family, to the 16th floor apartment in New York.
I know my boss' dog is currently in limbo due to divorce / child custody battle.
Our family had actually received Shelby & Goldie from a lady that was pregnant with twins and felt overwhelmed. It was a win win for us.

I get that things happen sometimes... and it's not the ones who do the responsible thing and rehome animals that they can't or don't want to take care of anymore that I take umbrage with... it's the ones who just kick them out the door and don't even TRY to rehome them, just put them out to make their own way as best they can. THOSE are the ones that turn my stomach.

We foster for a shelter, unless the dog has issues they should have no problem with you adopting. Thanks for adopting! The dogs deserve a good furever home!

Thanks, but they've ignored a couple emails I've sent asking for updates.
At this point, I'll be shocked if they contact me.
But, I'll still keep hoping
