I had an 94 9C1 caprice, it was a great car, faster than you think because the police package got a better rear end ratio than the impala SS, handled pretty good also, never heard anything about them flipping and the police I talked to liked them better than the crown vice with the 4.6 engines.

The other police car I really liked (out of the 5 I have owned) was my 86 crown vic. Mustang gt engine and go cart steering box, once you got rid of the eagle gt4 tires that came on them, they handled great

The post office workhorse step vans were never intended to drive at highway speeds, so the 6.5 non-turbo engine has plenty of power and durable as he'll for city driving. Turbo engines do not like being shut off 50 times a day like these are, driver has to shut it off every time he gets out

Columbus had a bunch of the 91-96 caprices.. the officers loved the drivetrains hated the driveability, rear headroom, and the suspensions..

I love the drivetrains since they were great easy Harvests from Junkyards.. replace the optispark with a vented optispark , hack the computer and tyou had an easy streetrod mash-up.. I never kept one of the cars..

the buibble caprices were junk except they were easily buildable into Hotrods since they had slightly De-tuned corvette LT1 engines and 4L60E transmissions in them. I bought a flipped over one for 1500 bucks and harvested a 20k miles drivetrain for a hotrod project.. the cops hated them because they had a tendency to flip over or go airborne on road impoerfections in pursuits. around here most of those got sniped up and DONKed with 28" rims and wierd green and gold metal flake paint jobs..

Unless someone changed it, all the 94 to 96 9C1's had the vented opti spark from the factory, still have an LT1 in my 96 fleetwood brougham

lol thanks. I'm still learning as I go. this is the first vehicle I've ever had shipped via third party. So far so good, the truck is supposed to be there tomorrow sometime to pick up my van. Should be here sat or sun. The closer we get to it being here the more excited I am about actually getting a van finally!

this sucks with shipping companies.. I sometimes think they bid out each position on a car carrier and if someone else bids higher for that spot on the transport they "bump" or try and be a PITA to others who may have paid less..

where is your van? nebraska?

I can relate. When I looked into shipping companies to get my '46 from Utah to Houston, all I got was BS. They are nearly all brokers, not movers and will jerk you around for weeks or months. Got lucky and found an independent who quoted about half what the "professionals" wanted, showed up on time and made a smooth move.

You just nailed it. Just a bunch of overly eager brokers.
SUPPOSEDLY they're getting it today or have already picked it up. The contact at the university said they called her about pickup so that's a positive sign.
Can't wait to get some louvered rear window covers, a porthole, and some side pipes on it.

Too bad they don't make chain steering wheels for modern, airbag equipped stuff!

Should have it here Sun or Mon.
I've NEVER had a regular American van before and have always wanted one. Actually having a NEED for one was the final straw.
For the price, it should be pretty sweet.
