Re: Hippie or redneck

*Sigh* I miss the green. Only way to get green 'round here is to go sit on Campus, and while the Campus Fuzz don't mind me there, the students get annoying.

I see Pine, that looks like a Hickory, what looks like a Silver Maple, and a whole lotta GRASS. I kinda miss grass. I should plant some in a planter and have a tiny 'lawn'.

And you would need a tiny lawnmower too?

On second thought... no plants for you. You are a bad plant mommy!

Probably a little bit of all. Could be what Hoosier means, although no one really seems to know. I prefer to do it my way, when I want. As far away from "them" as I can get.

Indiana adopted the nickname "Hoosier State" more than 150 years ago.[1] "Hoosiers" is also the nickname for the Indiana University athletic teams. Hoosier is sometimes used in the names of Indiana-based businesses and organizations. In the Indiana High School Athletic Association, seven active athletic conferences and one disbanded conference have the word Hoosier in their name.[citation needed]

In other parts of the country, the word has been adapted to other uses. In St. Louis, Missouri, the word is used in a derogatory fashion similar to "hick" or "white trash".[2] "Hoosier" also refers to the cotton-stowers, both black and white, who move cotton bales from docks to the holds of ships, forcing the bales in tightly by means of jackscrews. A low-status job, it nevertheless is referred to in various sea shanty lyrics. Shanties from the Seven Seas[3] includes lyrics that mention hoosiers. Hoosier at times can also be used as a verb meaning to trick or swindle someone.

Hey bansil, these are some new ones. I've been hearing all kinds of things all my life. Since this is now on the web it must be the final answer. I can now go to my grave with the correct info.

Re: Hippie or redneck

Reading through this is funny. I am for sure redneck (of the tech savvy variety), but also part hippy. I am disliking more and more being tied down to an area. I like the idea of being able to simply disconnect and roll out. We don't currently fulltime, as I am still finishing my bus, but there will be seasons where we do. I have one child left in public school, and next year she too will be homeschooled. I even have a job I can do remotely, just need internet. The bus actually came into being because we moved to Mexico for 6 months and my truck (1985 F250 with a built 460, lol) spun a bearing on the way there. As of right now, our current plan is to "roll out" next June and head to Redding, CA. Pretty much all I think about. I am sitting up in cubicleville as I write this and have had my fill. This isn't how I want to spend my life.

Jake

What draws you to Redding, California?

I lived in California for many years in many different cities. I am not going back.

I am going to Tennessee. It is nice there.

Re: Hippie or redneck

Actually, a church/school, Bethel. My wife and I would like to go to a school they have there to further prepare us for missions, our eventual goal I also LOVE the area. I know it's a ways away, but I work in Lodi a lot and love it. Don't have much time for Socal, but I like most of Northern California. The Shasta area is a pretty perfect picture of what my wife and I love.

Where in TN? I also work just south of Nashville a lot.
