HOA Insanity !
Seriously, these people are nuts:

Decide to leave your garage door closed while at work? That could cost you $200 if you live in one housing development in Auburn, California.
According to a KTXL-TV report, residents of the Auburn Greens development near Sacramento are required to keep their garage doors open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I wonder how they would handle a big, yellow school bus?

Just.. wow. I get it: they weren't in a position to make and enforce a rule prohibiting people using the garage as a dwelling, so instead they make a rule they _can_ do which they hope will deter others from dwelling in the garage.
It's amazing that they would spite themselves by reducing their garages to unsecured car ports to deal with such a small thing (and that garage dwelling thing is probably already covered in municipal code, anyway).

It's got nothing to do with it being California, and everything to do with it being a HOA.
It's not enforceable.
Besides which, it's so dumb that a simple residents meeting could replace the entire board with people less stupid.

I loved the HOA from my old house in Maryland. They threatened, yelled, even sent police......Then I showed the police my contract from purchasing the house...it stated HOA: NO
So even though there was one, the builder sold the house as no HOA. I refused to follow ALL their codes and rules. They hated my security cameras, the cops loved them. They would stop by a few times a year to ask for video of certain times. Then they arrested the HOA president for a meth lab in his basement......with the help of non HOA compliant video.

And this is in Calif. where Jerry Brown just announced they are ok with being a sanctuary state. Where do you think all these illegals are living, in garages of course.

So, hypothetically speaking, what could a 3-car garage rent out for these days?
Would it be enough for a retractable awning and some solar panels for the bus?

At my mom's HOA, they won't let you have your garage open for longer than it takes to park your car. One guy in the neighborhood bought his lot before the HOA was formed, and the rest were forced into the deal. Love the way his lot looks!

I was born here in 'Merika. I am an outlaw, and proud of it. Stupid laws should be ignored. MLK and Gandhi thought so too.

$500 a head and 27 heads in a 3 car makes it pretty provocative.
