Re: How many members here are into the i.t scene ?

I am a "multi-discipline" engineer. Being a fancy title that my company came up with to cover the fact that I do digital, analog and software design without actually paying me 3 salaries. Though the majority of my current design is mostly digital, we do FPGA design using VHDL. A lot of C code gets written too.

I build my own PCs every 5 years when the old one craps out or gets to the point it won't run the new stuff anymore since I like to get at least one cool game to mess around with a year.

So, I guess you could lump me in with the computer geeks. I read User Friendly and Sluggy (and find them funny).

Re: How many members here are into the i.t scene ?

I trained for IT work many years ago starting with the IBM 8080 systems. I then went to work as a service technician for a company that built ticket printers for airports and sports arenas. Now I just mess around with rudimentary HTML when time permits.

I am not trained in computers in the least, but am a sort of computer mechanic. Nope, I don't wrench on BMW stuff like servers, but give me a Plymouth Valiant like a P4 Northwood and I can do ok. I've learned more out of necessity and by reading than anything else.

I'm just a "cook", but I lived with a comp programer who does sys admin now...I learned a lot from him (mostly how to crash his system doing bug hunts) and play with computers as a sideline

Sorta of at one point. I used to work on servers for a while. Speaking of I remember touring Compaq back in the mid 90s and getting the VIP tour of their server rooms. At that point they were just starting to replace their IBM servers with their own.
