Input wanted about an idea

What do you think about replacing the rear portion of the bus with a box from a box truck. Maybe something like a 24-28 ft box. It would give you height. You wouldn't have to skin the windows. You could leave the roll up door if you wanted to use it like a toy hauler. Kind of a cross between a skoolie and a toter.

I know this is sacrilege...but Just go with the box truck, remove the bus from the equation.

Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work. I'm with Sean... just go with the truck (we thought of doing that too but the bus was much, much cheaper than any box truck we could buy). My basic theory is you can turn just about any structure into a space to live in... with a bit of sweat and ingenuity and some $$$.

The only downside to going with a box truck is that it's tough to find one with a 30+ foot box to give you all the length. A DT466 or C-series Cummins is certainly more easily attained in one though. On the other hand, you can often get the boxes for scrap value. How about a pair of sea cans stacked on the back?

I don't mean replace the whole body. Leave the drivers area and a few seats, then transition to the box. It would give you the added height to put bunks, shower, etc. The challenged like me, that would never do a roof raise, would be able to get height, roll up door, smooth sides. I'm just throwing it out there for discussion. I know some might not like it.

A couple of other reasons I am bringing this up. Boxes can sometimes be found for really cheap. Buses are usually cheaper than trucks. Put the two together.

I'm with Smitty on this. You're looking at the same type of work for a roof raise as for mating a box to a chopped bus body.

Also, you'll always be plagued with leaks and other problems at the point where you mate the two, if for no other reason than body flex.

However, nearly anything is doable with enough time, money, and effort.

Good luck with your decision, and let us know how it goes for you.
