Ok tech guys I have a question for you all.
I just killed my hotspot. A Verizon mifi 4510.
It fell off the dashboard while plugged in and ripped out the USB port.
It still works but I can't charge it anymore.
It says that it is a 4glte. whatever that means?
All I know is that it has worked very well for me.
I live in the boonies and travel mostly in the plains states and almost never in big cities.
I have been quite happy with the coverage.
I read about 3g backup I don't know if this device has that I just know it has worked well.
My question is this.
Is there a new device that will do the same job?
I would like something I can just swap sim cards with and go.
What do you all recommend?
Thanks.

Look on eBay, you might find a used one of the same type that still works for cheap. Or you might find a new one..... you never know.

A couple years ago I scored a brand new Nintendo Wii (the original Wii, not the Wii U) still in box, and they haven't made those in several years.

I may still have a 4510 laying around.. HOWEVER.. I believe the 4510 is missing the radio bands for the LTE advanced..

the verizon 4510 DOES support backup to 3G (its enabled by default in settings).. which means you have slower service in 3G but it still works.

I'll look at the number of my latest Verizon hotspot.. there was a noticeable difference when I upgraded to the Netgear device (bought from verizon).. it was easy I simply changed the SIM, called the phone number on the paperwork and pressed a few digits the automated system told me to do and done.

i have verizons latest hotspot, the netgear AC791L, and just love it. you should be able to swap the sim cards and be right back up and running.

a couple of other more robust options are mobile routers. one is the pepwave max BR1 and the mofi 4500, 2 modems that have built in radios so you can just put your sim card in the modem. i think that BR1 lets you combine signals from cell or wifi, and makes the router run faster.

good luck

if you want a True router (with wired and wireless).. get the MikroTik RB951G (has a USB port and the Netgear will plug in as WAN)..

I am using the Netear 791L for verizon and as mentioned its fantastic.. and supports the LTE advanced bands..

Will the newest hotspot from Verizon still backup to 3G?
I think that is what helps the one I have to work in rural areas.
