Inverters with Grid-tie capability?

I've got a PV array running through a battery bank to power the bus. That goes through a Whistler pro 2500w inverter. It's regulated by an Outback FlexMax80 Controller.

The controller is very intelligent, and should be able to divert shore power to charge the batteries. I haven't been able to make it work though. So I'm wondering if the system is wired wrong or if the inverter simply doesn't have Grid-tie capabilities. ("Grid-tie" is vernacular from the Outback manual)

no it will not take shore power and charge the batteries. the outback only charges the batteries from the pv. some inverters will charge batteries when pluged into shore power.

Outback inverters generally grid-tie. The FlexMax80 is a MPPT charger, IIRC. There would be no grid tie capability with it. The Whistler Pro 2500watt does not have grid-tie capability as it is a straight up basic inverter.
