Re: maybe

I don't think it's taller. We have fat kids here in California, so the law requires 12" opening. More to come. Oh yea, rear air suspension.

Re: maybe

So here's the one really bad part. CNG
I am searching for a motor. It has a John Deere 6.8 CNG motor with less than 12K on a fresh
rebuild. It's sooo smooooth and very quite. But the tanks have expired so they can't be filled.
This is one really nice bus. It has less than 43k original miles, no really. Not like the other one I bought
from that scumbag used car saleman.

Re: maybe

I have no idea, but with the amout of work that would take I would rather put a Cummins 8.3 or a Cat 3208. First choice is the Cummins. Priority given to the cheapest.

Re: maybe

cant you just have the tanks recertfied? or in worst case, put new ones in. But this bus can not be old enough that you shouldnt be able to have them recertified. For sure cheaper and less expensive then going through the whole conversion.

Re: maybe

New tanks are between $18000 and $25000 dollars US. That's right kiddies. I don't know about recertifying, that was something I was going to look into. But I will still only have a 100-200 mile range.

Something for comparison: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-Blu ... 0180140937
Although this ones got the 8.3.. and I'm not sure on the years of the bus above, so that also factors in..

Re: maybe

Why and how do you get tanks certified? Are these the fuel tank you are talking about. Do we all need to get certified tanks? Or is it just Cali?

Re: maybe

All CNG (compressed natural gas) tanks have an exipation date. I think its 15 years. These tanks are dated 1992 and exired in 10/92. Unless you have CNG tanks, you have nothing to worry about. It's not just for California, it's everywhere. I still don't know if they can be certified.

Re: maybe

NICE BUS! I assume those tanks are like high pressure bottled gas (oxygen, acetylene, fire extingisher, etc), they have to be hydrostatically tested every so often to protect you and the public. You will probably have to drop them out to be tested and then you will be good to go for another 15 years. Look into that and then buy that baby, it looks pristine. sportyrick

How much is the bus? If it's cheap enough it might be worth fixing.

Re: maybe

I bought it. $2000. I also found a mechanic that works on school busses. Now I must find a motor. Hopefully, I can sell the CNG motor to pay for a diesel swap.

Re: maybe

assuming the motor will run on gasoline i think a megasquirt GM TBI setup would be a great match.

swapping out a giant engine doesn't sound like much fun to me.
