Re: Motorhome vs. Trailer

Hey sportyrick! Good to hear from you! Your bus was one of my early inspirations back before I even had a bus.

Re: Motorhome vs. Trailer

Another important thing to consider is cargo weight capacity. Most class C motor homes I've seen have a mere 2000 LB cargo load rating. That's water, fuel, luggage, people, everything. I'd guess that most motor homes are probably dangerously overloaded as they careen down the interstate.

A bus, on the other hand, can carry a much heavier load. My 36 FT Crown probably weighs less that 15000 lbs empty, so it can carry roughly another 15000 or more lbs. That should allow plenty of capacity for all the stuff I plan to build into the bus: batteries, genset, appliances, furniture, etc, plus a 200 gallon fresh water tank, 200 gallon grey water tank and 50 gallon black tank. Compare that to a typical large RV that has a 40 gallon fresh tank and 25 gallon grey and black tanks. So a bus offers much more potential for extended boondocking.
