Re: Music!

Dan

Thanks for posting the videos.

I once owned over a hundred Vinyl albums of acoustic guitar music. a lot of them were on the Kicking Mule label and the Takoma label.

I had an instrumental (no singing) album with Bert Jansch and John Renbourn.

I gave away all those albums to a guitar playing friend who was extremely grateful for the gift.

That was at the time that I had started my long journey of living in vehicles.

My first setup was a 1963 Chevy Impala wagon towing a 1947 teardrop trailer. I drove across the United States with that rig.

In the same way, when I left Tennsessee, I sold my 980 VHS movies because there was no room for them in my bus. I used to have them stored in my 1972 Yellowstone trailer.

Now,i have 250 DVD movies. I don't even keep the covers. I keep them in CD books that can hold 100 of them.

I must say that Leo Kottke is my main influence in guitar playing.

I love those two guys! And I have that album myself. Jansch died recently, but Renbourn is still around. They were in a British folk revival group together called "Pentangle" which was mainly active during the 60's and 70's. The thing about British folk music vs. American folk, is that the British are sometimes playing much older music - like minstrel music from the Middle Ages. Pentangle, in particular, often played that type of pre-15th century Medieval-era music. Really neat stuff.

Re: Music!

Pentangle was a great band. Another band that nobody talks about anymore is the Dixie Dregs. They were phenomenal.

Does anyone remember the song Hocus Pocus by the band Focus? It was spectacular.

Regarding Pentangle, here's what I'm talkin' about:
This footage is so quintessentially of it's era; it's a thing of beauty.

Steve Morse, guitarist for the Dixie Dregs, and currently for Deep Purple, was/is an awesome jazz fusion/progressive rock guitar player, who no doubt helped to define those genres.

I love the Dregs!
I happened to see Steve Morse by accident when he was with Kansas. By accident you ask?
The wife + I went to Mohegan Sun casino (45 minutes from me) on a Monday nite. They have a big arena for concerts-but also a small stage in the middle of the place for free nitely shows. The acts vary from (usually older) name bands to cover bands. We were eatting in the food court-within earshot of the stage. As the sound went from background noise to something noticable, I said to the wife "these guys do a pretty good Kansas." After finishing dinner we walked over to the stage-well it WAS Kansas!

Heh heh...I I don't think I'm the average skoolie type. More of a punk, just an older version. Tats, stretched ears, etc...

Re: Music!

Good Band! Been hearing them lately on my Pandora.
Another Boston band (that tours with Dropkick Murphys often)-Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Two band on my "gotta see" short list.

Re: Music!

This is amazing. It is like musical flying saucers. They are called Hang Drums (pronounced hung).

They are hard to get as they are hand made and expensive. This guy is the best at them.

http://www.wimp.com/hangdrumming/

Here is another video of two very talented young women playing: hang drum, theremin, two hammer dulcimers, conga drums, and keyboards.

Not only are they talented, they are gorgeous.
