My wife is in the hospital

Serious bummer. She was working this morning...some dink in an H2 crossed the center line. He was hauling ass (45-50MPH...in a snowstorm!) and nailed her truck (F-550 rollback) head-on. The end result was the H2 getting absolutely annihilated, her truck sliding off the road and partway down an embankment.

She has a badly sprained left ankle, some fairly impressive bruises and a split lip from the airbag & seat belt, a strained right shoulder, a bunch of small scratches & cuts from the driver's window shattering, and may have a couple bruised ribs.

She also has no less than three highly-offensive cards from the rest of the drivers.

Good thing she was in a well built vehicle. Hope she gets better soon.

I am glad to hear that there were no major injuries to your wife.

I am uncertain as what the offensive cards are/mean..Like not get well cards?

I hope she has a speedy recovery and that your family life soon returns to normal.

Re: My wife is in the hospital

She works for a towing company...the other drivers sent her several very not-PC get-well cards.

Re: My wife is in the hospital

I hope she recovers fully and quickly. Being a "tow truck" driver in a New England winter is a truly tough way to make a living. Maybe Mike Rowe can do a segment of crawling underneath vehicles in slush to hook up recovery or security chains (if he hasn't already - no cable channels here).

On the other side of the crash, I think many Hummer drivers seem to have the attitude that they are Kings and Princes, and own both sides of the road and everything around it. Maybe it is just too many Jersey contractors on vacation passing by here with their toys. I don't think they are as bad as past observations of Cadillac drivers, because they don't often hold up traffic by going slow straddling two lanes.

Since I am wandering into motor psychology, I haven't yet figured out what the most aggressive drivers now drive - 20 years ago I could tell you it was Monte Carlo drivers hands down. Maybe it is all the little the Hondas with silver taillights and megaphone exhausts. The Hondas are not as noticeable as the old Monte Carlos because they aren't really that fast compared to the muscle cars of old, plus they are more likely to hurt themselves instead of others if they crash.

Not sure I follow...she's covered, between the H2 driver's insurance & her employer's WC. SHE was driving the tow truck.

She's home...has a brace on her left leg, is wearing a sling on her right arm for a couple of days (because I told her I would secure it with duct tape if she took it off), and needed stitches for a cut on her temple. I spent an hour making sure all the glass was out of her hair...when safety glass breaks, pieces go EVERYWHERE.

Re: My wife is in the hospital

So did she, until she realized I was dead serious.

She seems to be doing fine...I helped her shower (she couldn't balance without using both arms), washed her very long hair, and combed all the glass out of it. Later, she slept through the night with no trouble. Then, she woke up...and made me late for the union meeting this morning. This being a family site, I will not go into more detail except to say that she seems to be recovering nicely.

Re: My wife is in the hospital

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's injuries. Thank God she was driving a tank and a newer one at that with airbags. 50mph plus her speed is a very serious hit. Hope she recovers quickly.
