Northwest Skoolie Rendezvous 2018....

Mornin' Everyone,

We made an attempt at a get together in Washington State last year and life got in the way. So, here we go again! Let's see if we can make it play in 2018.

We have a pretty good crop of newer members hailing from Oregon, Washington and Idaho. I got to wondering what would be a good central spot for all to meet and had suggestions of: Yakima, Ellensburg and Moses Lake.

Let me know what you all think regarding location and time? If we meet up on the East side or the Cascades we will likely want to do it before it gets too hot. Perhaps May or June?

Last year we had a tentative offer of private land for the event in the Yakima area. Unfortunately I don't think that member is active any longer...

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Take care.

S.

Just received a suggestion from a gent regarding a potential location that is about a "central" as you can get:

Old Vantage Hwy Campground
https://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/water_acce...D&search=30171

Anyone familiar with this area?

Would love to attend, but it will have to wait until 2019. Do most people want hookups? There is a large and free campsite (Teanaway campground) that is off 970, but no amenities except pit toilets - so bit west and north of Ellensburg. Only other large site I know about is the Cle Elum River campground (Federal - N of Cle Elum), but gated until opening of season (end of May usually). Doing it before the heat and rush of summer, especially with reservation system, sounds right. Private land, even if there was a charge, would be easiest to manage. I used to attend Medieval events (SCA) and they found cheap land to rent with lots of room, not sure how they went about finding them though.

Thanks Druid,

I will check those locations out.

I am hoping that interest picks up or I may be attending my self

We have a number of newer members in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. I thought this would be a great opportunity to get new folks together with more experienced Skoolies.

Please speak up if you have interest in a get together!!!

Thanks.

Sounds like a great idea and I look forward to attending in the future. My bus has the giant, blue tarp of shame over it so I could keep working on the inside build until summer when I can fix the roof and window leaks, so sadly won't be driving anywhere in spring/summer 2018.

Sorry to hear that. I am looking forward to seeing your build.

You would certainly be welcome without a bus as well.

Mine will not be near complete. More like a metal tent. Air mattress and sleeping bags

Hey Druid,

I have been looking at the locations that you pointed out and have not found an opening date for this year. Do you know when they open?

Thanks.

Too bad this meet isn’t mid July to mid August as I go through that area every year.
This year we start in Calgary and go through Sandpoint , Spokane , Moses lake , museum of flight , hang out on the peninsula , go up to Vancouver island , and diddlefart back through bc.
Hope you get a good turnout.
George

Hey George,

The dates are not set in stone yet. I am of the same thought as Druid. Dates before school gets out for the summer will make finding a location easier but I am flexible.

It really depends on when folks who want to attend are available.

Let us know what dates and locations work for you and we will do our best to accommodate as many as we can.

I'll be in the PNW June 17 - July 2nd, so if it's those dates, I'm in. If not, I'd love to meet some of you while I'm out there!

Yep; been there, liked it. I still have to get to McMinnville to see the Spruce Goose.

It would be great if you could make it!

I am open regarding dates. Let's see what everyone else says about dates that work.

That Howard Hugh’s plane is also on the list for this trip if we have time.
The Boeing field museum I saw a couple years ago and it was excellent. Added bonus is Boeing planes coming in for work on the runway adjacent to the museum ... couple of hours there and you see ancient biplanes/Learjets/727s all using the same runway. Going there again!
I digress , let’s leave the thread to Steve’s meet.

Is the Blackbird still there? Saw it there years ago. Mighty sleek piece of work.

I'd love to be there! I live about 40 miles South of Portland so, this end of the Valley would be best for me.
