Not Skoolie related. Army rank question?

Hey Everyone,

This question has absolutely nothing to do with Skoolies but I suspect someone here can answer it for me.

Any Army Vet's in the house?

I am making a commemorative piece for a Vietnam Veteran. He served active duty Army from 1961-1965 and in the reserves from 1965-1967. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Two questions:

1) Should I indicate his service years as '61-'65 or '61-'67?

2) I need to abbreviate "Staff Sergeant" and have seen different forms. Would "SSG" or "S. Sgt" be correct?

Thanks.

S.

Normally you only list the active duty service.

Rank as follows; https://www.va.gov/vetsinworkplace/docs/em_rank.html

As a vet my opinion is this, he served his country from 61 to 67 period, and especially since it is a commemorative item, it is more about what he did overall

And SSG is correct, here is some ref. for you
army enlisted ranks

also here for medals for the display

post a picture when you get it done

Awesome idea. Glad to see ppl supporting one another. I am ex navy, not army. BUT i have a hardened opinion on this. I joined after graduating high school (1992). When I went to boot camp we were all given the meritorious service ribbon everyone gets for just being in the services. BUT i was also given one for DESERT STORM which happened while i was in high school. But because there were current operations ongoing....I qualified for it. I DISSAGREE 100% on that. I did nothing to earn that ribbon. I only celebrate that which I DID.
