Opinions on this bus?

https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/...999611197.html

Looking for a bus to convert into an RV for full time living with wife and two kids.

I've been plowing through the forums here and have an idea of what will be involved to do the conversion right. I want to start with a sound machine that will be worth investing the time and materials into.

I definitely intend to push this thing across the country and that will include lots of mountains.

I found a discussion about the DT466 engine through this site (linked to this thread here)

Also accompany it with a transmission like an MD-3060 or MT-643 or manual. DT466s do not like 545s... that's likely the "eating" combination you've heard about. We have 6 '01 AmTran FEs with DT466Es and 545s and 2 or 3 of them have had transmission replacements in the past couple years.

Is this combo a deal-breaker or is there a workaround/modification that is reasonable?

Thanks!

IMHO: Nice looking bus but I think that you can do much better than $6500 for a bus with an AT545 and 196k miles.

I love my Bluebird. Some scolded me for paying too much. I held out for big motor, MD-3060 & RE. It has 170k miles and runs/drives like a dream. With auction fees I paid about $3800.

If you look about there are some dealers that may have better deals. Take a look at : Retail Sales | 422 Sales

Coslitzcoach posted a bunch of links for various dealers and auction sites.

no bus with a 545 and that mileage should be more than a couple grand.

At half the price I might be interested.

At that asking price I would want a lot fewer miles and an OD transmission with tires that were next to brand new.
