OT- Tractors, Mowers, Power Equipment Thread!

I've found myself talking mowers and equipment a lot lately, figured we could have a dedicated thread since its not related to buses. A place to talk tractors, mowers, farm implements, anything really.
I recently picked up a SWEET lil push mower. A commercial Sarlo with Yanmar single cylinder air cooled diesel! paid $635. Engine is worth double that!

I didn't really NEED that mower, but I know a deal when I see one and its a QUALITY machine built to last forever. can't go wrong!

Traded the Sarlo today, though. Got a KILLER deal I couldn't pass up. Guy I mow for/with has an elderly lady customer whose husband passed away years ago, shortly after he'd bought a nice commercial mower to use in his HUGE yard. Its an EverRide. REALLY stout, really amazing mowers! She sold it to Adam who traded it to me for the Sarlo and $500! SCORE! Even got an extra, new battery! This EverRide has 299 hours on the meter and looks nearly new. Sat over 5 years in that lady's garage untouched. Other than some new fluids, some greasing, and some air in the tires it should be good to go! This is a serious mower, anyone who knows commercial mowers knows about these EverRides.

My lawn mowing life just got immeasurably better!!!

I use the name 'turf' for a reason.

I taught sports turf management and turf science for 10 years at the local college.

my mower is a Toro Groundsmaster. 64" cut, 28hp 3 cylinder diesel. she's 20 years old and a beast. knocks down my 5 acres easy. i think i only put about 15 hours on it last year.

oh and turf rhymes with my name too. before the teaching gig, i had a lawn care business, Durf's Turf.

Toro, and lots of other old manufacturers, used to build a damn good machine.
My buddy/employer has a fleet of 2015+ Toros and they've been ok but a couple have been very problematic. They sure don't build em like they used to. That's one hell of a machine you mow on, Turf!!!
I'm also a fan of old Ferris and Yazoo machines.

They say in the next ten years the whole industry will mostly be electric powered stuff.
As of now- I can mow, edge, trim, and blow four yards by the time you've mowed your front yard!

well, I think we are comparing apples and oranges.
for my circumstances battery powered is more practical.

I use a very long electrical cord. Things get cut if they're withing 100 ft of the plugin.

Here is my mower- 31HP gasser w/ 60" cut Exmark Laser Z that I bought new about 10 years ago. Added a sprayer rig for weed/fert. Runs good, no major issues.

VERY nice rig! I bet that sucker cuts like a dream!

Just cut my yard with the new EverRide. What a beast!
Greased everything, drained and replaced the fuel and filter, and put a couple new tires on the front. The local mower dealer has NOS parts leftover from when they carried EverRide so I got a DEAL!

Many people don't understand that quality tools are an investment. I remember when my dad ponied up $2000 for a International Lo-Boy in 1972 and he wouldn't let us kids near it. He paid more for his mower than the VW bug he was driving and he didn't want the mower broke. He passed that mower on to me, but it wasn't suitable turning-radius for my many trees and I had to sell it. I got more than he paid, 30 years later and the buyer was ecstatic.

I help out the widow across the street, she went and bought a john deere from Lowes and it's constantly breaking. I tried to explain it's a disposable MTD unit, not really a Deere just because: green... She paid $2200 for 2 years of use- coulda hired a service !

I had a grasshopper commercial I bought used for $2200, sold it for $2000 10 years of use later.

I'm not familiar with EverRide- I love Hustler's ( the mower ) Thick steel plate, just replace motors when they croak.

EverRide were a lesser known brand in some areas, but really tough, robust commercial mowers. I'd put em right up there with Scag. REALLY burly construction, no frills. The deck would survive the apocalypse!

I've got 2 houses. Each has less than an acre, including the footprint of the house. I use the green EGO 56V LiIon battery powered mower that you can pick up at Homers. They're great! A battery lasts 50-55 minutes which is enough for one of the places and almost enough for the other. Recharge in 30 minutes. I picked up a leaf blower that uses the same battery so I can just rotate batteries. And those electrics are not slower per se than a gas mower unless the grass is taller than about 6". I love being able to mow and listen to music at the same time.

I've got a Bad Boy ZT60. 60 inch cut with 27 HP Briggs. Toughest mower I've ever had. We mow about 12 acres a week very hilly with lots of trees.
We've had it for 6 years now and other than blades and belts no problems. I just replaced the blade spindle bearings this year.
My tractor is a Duetz 30 06 with a front end loader. I think it's about 40 years old. It has no glow plugs or heater of any kind. Starts a -20 the same as summer time.

I wanted the Bad Boy when I got mine, but no dealer close by back then,

Here is a guy with too much mower and not enough skill...

My former inlaws were Slovak and had an old Deutz. That tractor was a great piece of machinery. Built like a tank.
Some of the best, underappreciated tractors ever!

The Bad Boys are everywhere here. Tractor Supply, Ace, and every mower shop that's not been around more than a decade. I've not looked at them much, since they sell em at the big box stores. Never heard good or bad about em. I'd bet the older ones are better since they seem to be MASS produced now. I think Hustler has gone a similar route- they now sell cheap Hustlers at Lowes here.

After doing some routine maintenance and freshening it up, this EverRide is the best bargain I've ever gotten on a machine. its practically new. Even came with the books, manuals, and all that.
I use a 2015 Toro Grandstand 52 and a 2016 toro 3000 60" every day and honestly this EverRide seems to be a much more robustly constructed mower. Its heavy and everything is easy to reach and access. No frills, no BS machine!

Based on the grille decoration, I'd say it just burns it.
