Restoring an old wood stove.

Does anyone have any advice on restoring an old wood stove that has been sitting outside for years? A neighbor is going to give me an Englander wood stove for our house. He used to heat his home with it until he got a larger, fancier one. I have not looked at it, but he says it will need to be sandblasted or cleaned with a wire brush then re-painted.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with such an endeavour and could give me tips or suggestions. Thanks for the help.
