seat belt question

why does my seat have extra seat belts fasten to the floor and to the seat?

it is an air ride seat if that is important

A belt to secure the seat that you are belted to!

So the seat doesn't launch you into the overhead

The first time I hit a speed bump at just the right speed on an air-ride seat.. WOW! Those things are like catapults! After that experience I understood why the air-ride seat would have a limit strap on it.

Because school bus drivers weigh 300#. You don't expect 4 tiny bolts to hold that seat in place during a collision.

are they supposed to be adjusted to a specific amount of slack?

Four grade 5 fine thread bolts are holding my seat down.
do I really need these straps?
do they keep the seat from over extending and coming loose from the bottom section?

I guess I would figure that the chair is built that way for one reason or another, and it could have something to do with the chair not over-extending in a big bounce or it could have something to do with transferring seat belt forces (ie a collision) around the air ride mechanism rather than through it.

W/o looking my guess is limit straps to keep from damaging air cylinder or worst case, cylinder comes apart and seat collapses and then you crash trying to steer on the floor

I think I will put it all back together as designed, adjust it to what seems appropriate for my weight and ride height on the seat and never worry about another thing.
Thanks
