Seat belts and air ride seats

Has anyone else seen this about the bus driver who was bounced out of his seat and lost control of his bus?

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t3#...iver-crash.cnn

I can sympathize with how the guy must have felt being bounced around like that. When I drove my bus for the first time, the 'air ride' seat would slam me into the steering wheel every time I hit a bump. I ended up finding the lever and taking all the air out of the seat ... lord only know how. I'm thinking of adding a porch swing spring to keep the seat from rising quite so high after a bump. I'd rather had a firm, bumpy ride, than be bruised by the slamming into the steering wheel or lose control.

Re: Seat belts and air ride seats

there are good adjustable air ride seats that are expensive and the cheaper things that are found oem and in such places as school busses.
Sometimes you can find one of the expensive ones in a truck wrecking yard. The one i got with the last bus i bought is average. Not all seats will bounce people around.

Re: Seat belts and air ride seats

I keep looking on Craigslist hoping to find something.

My current bus is the first one I've driven that had an air ride seat. I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but quickly learned I didn't like it. I believe something may be wrong with the mechanism. I would think there should be some kind of limiter for how far it can flex upward. Or perhaps it was made to use the driver's weight to keep it down? I donno. But since I ain't a delicate, light flower of womanhood, I can't imagine the weight thing is a design feature

With all due respect and while I don't know about all this "delicate flower etc. stuff" I assure you that you are an exceptional example of both womanhood and "humanhood". I certainly look forword to each of your entries and I admire the skills that you have developed as do the rest of us playing on SKOOLIE.

Thank you very much. That was sweet.

It works well, at least for me. Could you devise something similar for your seat?

That's a good idea. I may very well try that. Anything to keep my feet from leaving the floor! It was a bit nerve wracking that first time on the road.
