Dude, you just can't drive that thang enough, can you?

I am toying with the idea of taking mine to either west Texas (Big Bend National Park) or central Montana (Upper Missouri Wild and Scenic River) next summer to do some extended paddling. First I want to get a couple of shorter, local trips under my belt...so the tow truck doesn't have to carry me so far!

OOOO that sounds like fun, Thats right about the time I got a weeks vacation commin. At this point I'd say I'd like to go along with my skoolie, maybe follow you down. I live in Michigan so we could meet up and convoy down.

It that in Texas? I dont know much about this place but sounds like it would be fun.

yes, it's south east texas on the gulf coast. You can drive on the beach, camp, have fires, park, ect. And it's the spring break capitol of the US.

North padre is also an experience. It's a national park and is about 63 miles long. I don't know too much about south padre, but i think that having the jacuzzi bus parked next to the ocean surrounded by thousands of college hotties sounds like a good time.

I plan to camp in the bus on the beach for a week. Not having to get a hotel room will make the trip rather inexpensive. (or at least offset the cost of fuel)

How do feel about me fallowing you down? my bus tops out at 57mph (maybe 60 if I draft ya lol) and I still should paint it & maybe build a rack on top, I better get workin on it.

I thought I'd bump this post since the trip is less than a month away.

So far I'm taking my bus and Jason (lapeer20m) aka "the guy with the jacuzzi in his bus" is takin his. We're driving from MI to TX if anyone wants to meet up or convoy with us let us know.

Hi Jason,

I probably won't have my bus ready (low on funds), but I'll still make the trip to South Padre Island, just to see the conversions (and maybe buy some beers).

Hope you don't mind.

Robert

You don't need to bring yoru skoolie to hang out with us, that's for sure.

how far out of the way is houston? If you are not too far out of the way you're welcome to ride down there with us.

Not sure if we're gonna enter the sand on access #5 or #6. I've been told that number 5 is much easier to drive on. In either case, we prob won't venture too far from the access site, driving on the sand make me a little nervous with a 12 ton beast.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the offer but, Houston is east of the way you're probably going and you're probably going from Dallas, to San Antonio, to Brownsville, to South Padre Island (wouldn't want to take you out of your way).

Anyway, I probably won't be able to get off of work, for that week, but I should be able to take a couple of days off to join you. Besides, this should give me incentive to get my bus going .

What kind of beer do you prefer (now don't get too expensive )?

Robert

BTW, I forgot to add; I'm in my 50s and I'm probably going to be out of place there (even though I do like to look at the young ladies or maybe their mothers ).

I would just like to see the buses (especially, your WVO system and Jaccuzzi) and the people that own them.

Robert

P.S. If you do come through Houston, I can treat you to some beers here.

Robert

ironicly enough, even though i'm the party bus guy, I don't drink. I appreciate the offer though.

Mt. Dew is good when i'm in party mode, but i'm boring, i mostly drink water.

You can always bring food to bbq. I plan to bring a grill, and my turkey deep fryer.

Don't feel obligated to bring anything though, it's cool just meeting other crazy skoolie owners (and we're all crazy!)

That's a deal; Mt. Dew it is. What do you drink, reg or red, can or bottle? It's only fair if I'm going to get some information from you .

thanks for the info.....

in my car, i spent about a week each in, north padre, austin, and south padre last spring. Of the three places, I have to say that south padre would definately the best place for my partybus.... in my opinion.

Austin definately has a lot to offer when it comes to music. I woulnd't mind going back there again sometime.
South by Southwest was going on when i was there.

I think Jason will be on the beach, waiting for the scantily cladded coeds to appear. I don't think he'd be doing too much driving

Tomorrow It gonna be in the mid to high 80's on south padre.....Here it'll be above freezing at least

I just have to tell you guys that I'm more than a little jealous. I wish our bus were done in time....convoying from MI and MN would hardly be a problem....we could piss off WI troopers and their black unmarked F-150's together (fair warning to other that might cross Wisconsin)

Perhaps someday we can have our own little skoolie somewhere? I'd prefer somewhere with lots of women....adult beverages.....no telephones or other access to the outside world, etc.

Anyway....enjoy your trip(s)!

Andrew
