Re: Super fuel efficient car
Nice work Jason, I like the emblum ideas, will catch peoples eyes in parking lots and such...
Apparently super fuel efficient cars are also super profitable cars, I sold my Passat TDI a few days ago for $3,000 - more than 3 times what I paid for it 2 weeks ago. If anyone wants to make some easy money, invest in fuel efficient cars.

I remember reading where you bought a tdi for under a grand. How the hell did you pull that one off? TDIs have been bringing ridiculous monye for quite awhile now, although I suspect the premium for diesel over gas has cut into that a bit.

Re: Super fuel efficient car
I found it on craigslist... luckily I found the add about 10 minutes after the guy posted it and I was the first one there with the cash. It needed a motor mount badly when I picked it up, the motor was shaking so bad you'd think the car was going to rattle to pieces at idle. A $50 motor mount took care of it though.
I thought about hanging on to it, but I like my other beater car (crown vic) a lot better - better suited for my family of 4.
It got 45 MPG, with diesel at $4.70 a gallon I think I figured it to be about $0.10 per mile in fuel to drive it, which is about the same as my roommates hybrid civic (try finding one of those cheap ) My crown vic costs about $0.16 a mile to drive. I figured at 15K miles per year, it'd save me $800 per year to drive that TDI.. or sell it for $2,000 profit... I took the money and ran. lol

And you can still get parts for a Honda. Ford discontinued replacement parts for the Festiva and Aspire and the aftermarket never really jumped on them. That means current owners of them are left adapting (like using Ford Escort caliper hardware...)
You are much better off with the Honda. What trim line is that? The HF models got some really neat stuff like a torque cam (in exchange fr lower horsepower), an alternator that the computer would not only regulate, but actually turn off completely, and some other neat mileage getting ideas that the domestics are just now catching on to.

My wife has a 1988 Festiva (aka, the roller skate)...part availability is a complete non-issue. About 45MPG.

Re: Super fuel efficient car
Hey Lapeer how is this project coming along?
Bought myself a 93 VW Passat Diesel to fight the high fuel costs.

Re: Super fuel efficient car
I was wondering the same thing since he got his police car painted black with the flashing lights as seen in his youtube video. The diesel civic still seems interesting. The closest I have come to anything like that was a 500 in to my sportsman 700. Now the thing does better on gas and is one of a kind and has that special "modification by me" winch on the front and back which not many people even have one on the front. The neighbor saw that and thought it was a good idea as he only has one on the front.

Re: Super fuel efficient car
I think he got sidetracked with buying his house, he got an awesome deal on a home that needed repairs and he only had 30 days to do some major work on the home. I went out there to help him with his roof about a month ago, I seen the CRX-diesel, it still needs finishing but I think he had a lot on his plate.

Re: Super fuel efficient car
I just have too many irons in the fire right now....
like phill said, i just bought a house, did hardwood floors, new roof including 20 sheets of plywood, the bathroom, got plumbing, a woodstove, a bunch of ceramic tile, mowed grass that was 3 feet high etc etc.....
The civic is really close....pretty much all it needs is some tweaking with the shifter linkage, some exhaust and paint. A couple of long days and i'd have it done.
i did buy a 2001 crown vic police interceptor...i should add that to the beater thread
