Synthetic oil

Is anybody running "Synthetic" oil in their Diesel Rigs, I have heard that it is Ok but I just wanna make sure. I know that for it's life of 130,000km it's just been running standard 15w-40 Diesel Oil, and it's been changed at every interval. Just wondering if I can make the switch. I have noticed improvements in Gassoline engines so im sure a bit of that may carry over to the Diesel's.

Whadaya say?

I use it , works great , but it must be synthetic " Diesel " oil. I get mine at our local CO-OP , DMO Sl in a 0W40. I use it in my bus and in my 6.9L Diesel F250 daily driver.

The most commonly available synthetic, mobil 1, is only for use in passenger car diesel engines. (as far as diesels go) 0w40 mobil 1 is all the rage among diesel mercedes benz owners, especially for winter time use. It does have diesel api classification (can't remember which one off the top of my head) but it not rated for bigger diesels like the ones found in most buses.

how about the 7.3 liter? does a ford truck or van classify? i don't know the answer.

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV and Delvac 1 are diesel-rated synthetics...most common is 5W-40. Shell also makes a Rotella T synthetic usable by tractor trailers & buses.

The 7.3 L is a bored out 6.9L ( 0.110 IIRC) This is the reason the 7.3s need the cooling systems properly maintained. Cylinder walls are thinner.
My busses are both 7.3s, same motor basically as the 6.9 in my F250.
Ford trucks and vans use the same motor as the 7.3s in busses, but Ford uses an adapter plate to mate their transmissions to the IH motor. I could if I needed to , put the 6.9 from my F250 in my bus, or vice versa using the adapter plate thats already in my truck. Only differences that I see are bolt on things like the water neck and oil pan and accesories. I run the synthetic in the bus's 7.3 too, it sounds very different and feels like it doesn't work as hard .
