There's white crap all over the ground!
And we are supposed to be leaving TOMORROW!!!!
It doesn't snow much here in Socorro but of course it snows today! Unless the roads are clear to Roswell, we aren't leaving Tuesday. I am watching the NMRoads website to keep an eye on US380 but chances are it will get closed down today. It got closed on Friday and didn't open up until mid afternoon on Saturday due to crashes caused by the snow. Bad thing about places that don't get much snow.. They are not really geared to handle it when it happens.
This is what we should be able to see in the distance
THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!

Re: There's white crap all over the ground!
Think of it this way,the first snow of the year is pretty, sit back and enjoy it....
After this one...every snow morning sucks
After we checked out a bus we headed home over the mountains and there it was snowing,we slowed down and locked the hubs in and just drove home.....glad we didn't get that bus that day, that would of sucked
Good luck on your move

Re: There's white crap all over the ground!
I 40 is closed!
Quote:
Interstate 40 eastbound from Gallup exit to Albuquerque
I-40 EB will be closed from Gallup to Albuquerque. Motorists are to seek local accommodations at various casino pull-offs.
Interstate 40 at mile marker 140
I-40 EB @ Rio Puerco all lanes closed
Interstate 40 eastbound and westbound from at mile marker 184 to at mile marker 239
I40MM 184-239 - Road Closed due to high winds, blowing snow and zero visibility conditions. More information will be posted as it becoms available.
|
Most of the rest of the road is listed as "Difficult Driving Conditions"
I25 just above us is listed as "Difficult Driving Conditions" (snow packed and icy) but the section of I25 at Socorro (Exit 147) and south is open and the traffic is moving very slowly. That will probably change later this afternoon.

Re: There's white crap all over the ground!
But I don't DO snow! It's not a good surface for flip-flops!
Seriously, NM is too far "north" for us. I pulled my insulated hiking boots out to wear today. They weigh a ton. And we will be in NM for at least two winters before we head farther Southeast. Tonight is single digits! I sure hope the bus will stay warm enough. I got the water hose heat taped on Saturday. But the black holding tank and the water connection is exposed. That will be one of the first things we do once we get settled in... build a boxed bay so that we can stick a light bulb in there. Next week I start the "stealth" aspect of the conversion.
No fresh water tank, no grey tank, no kitchen sink, no shower, no hot water, no cabinets. Only source of heat is a little 1500w electric milkhouse style space heater. My lights are a 25 ft string of white and clear C7Christmas lights! I got them for $1 at a flea market. Everything is running off of extension cords! First things first... get the food cart set up and make some money!
One day, we will look back and call this an adventure! For now... we can survive this. I've lived in sawdust before, I can do it again. The temps are supposed to warm up by Sunday.
We have a battery powered circular saw, a battery powered drill/screwgun, misc hand tools and a local Home Depot. All we need is some $$!

Re: There's white crap all over the ground!
Central Texas: 30 degrees. Dang! 60 degrees in the front half of the bus though with a couple small electric space heaters. Not bad, but I think I can improve on that with some more insulated curtains to section off the cockpit.

Re: There's white crap all over the ground!
Sunday we will be back up to daytime high 40's to mid 50's. That is "normal" for this time of year. Overnight low's flirt around freezing. Winter weather here is similar to Chattanooga but without all the rain. Overnight temps are slightly lower. We need to look for a warmer place to live in the winter.

Indeed John, I remember fondly back to when I lived a little closer to your neck of the woods - in Santa Monica.
In the 80 degree sunshine, strolling the beach in the cool breeze and thinking ... 'Yup, this is why we endure those horrible 60 degree winters .....'

45F at 2:40PM and I'm still looking at snow, granted it's melting away but still looking at snow. Yuk! and the gravel site is mushy muddy... yuk yuk yuk!
With the heat gain thru the windows, it's 63F inside. Won't stay that way like that tonight! The single electric space heater does not keep up when the overnight temps drop to and below freezing. Adding insulation to the walls is my 2nd next project... insulating and heating the black tank bay is my first priority. Thawing out a full black tank is a PITA. I now dump solar salt (looks like rock salt) down in the tank to prevent it from freezing up.

I am actually happy with the weather this week. Let me put a tuneup on the truck before winter weather really hit here in SE KS. Now I just need to get the bus back from my dad so I can get back to work on it. My dad and brother borrowed it for a week long job of putting on a roof. They are local contractors and the job was an hour commute one way. It was just as easy to park the bus on the farmer's property and boondock for a week. Can't wait for a little bit of a dusting though. I just don't want anything to heavy.
