Sadly, none of this is surprising. On a local level this stuff goes on to a similar (90+%) degree, and being local, it should be easier to keep an eye on, right? Well, it doesn't seem to stop, or even hold up any of their dirty dealings.
I think it boils down to the fact that the crafty bastards (on many levels) hold the reins, and know there's hardly a one (let alone a needed many) that's stand up enough, willing, or dare I say, able to do diddly squat about it.
As good a guy as DeMint comes across to be, I wouldn't and don't trust him either. He's got more mettle than most politicians these days, though. They're all in someone's pocket, it seems...
