Have a fully converted Thomas '98 27' Bus looking for any suggestions for a trailer Hitch or someone that has built one from scratch. There are no real design specs I can find so far. We use the bus for RV but also use it for a promotional vehicle & I want to put a Hitch Mounted carryall on the back for a Generator & other items we have a Mardi Gras Parade coming up & it's going to be init.
I cut out a slot in my bumper to contain the loading ramp. Through that "license plate" size hole I cut out, you can see the cross brace behind the bumper securing the ends of the frame. My intent is to weld a plate across the top opening of the cross member, cut a hole in the bottom of the bumper to slide the receiver in. Slide it in till the square ring on the end butts up against the bumper, weld it around there and the cross brace and it should be strong enough to haul anything you may have.
Get you a $20 2" x 12" hitch receiver and you should be able to get someone to weld it on for you for $40. You will have a hitch for $60 that someone else would charge you $200 for. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-Weld-on-...1qY3:rk:5:pf:0
