Using Truck Tuners On Skoolies

Hey everyone, thank you for checking my post. I did some searching on this and I have come to the conclusion that the ports are different from trucks to school busses. However, I have not found if there is a workaround for this. Does anyone make a transfer port from the school bus to the tuner? I am looking at something like this to add some MPG and power.

I would call them and ask.

It looks to me like the one you linked is intended for Dodge pickups with the 5.9 Cummins.

Take a look at: https://www.agdieselsolutions.com/12000.html This one is for medium duty applications.

About those ports? The trucks use either a 9 or 16 pin deutz connector while the pickups use the standard automotive OBD- II also the software is not interchangeable.

Ag Diesel Solutions (see link above) has versions intended for the medium duty truck & ag market. They will have the J1708 or J1939 connectors.

golfer has it right... those tuners for consumer vehicles work on the OBD-II standard, MD and HD trucks use either J1708 or J1939, J1939 is the newer standard.. those tuners also count on the fact that their manufasctiurer has found an exploit or ability to re-flash the software into the computer in that vehicle. tuners cant just send commands for more power into the diagnostic port, the software in the computer is replaced.

there are devices specifically made for the MD / HD market like the bullydog big rig and the aggie. cummins and CAT have decent support in the aftermarket because they were used in many manufacturers of equipment.. Navistar has very little tuning support in the aftermarket..

in the MD / HD market Longevity and fuel economy are typically what people are after, not so much speed.. some of the cowboy-truckers want their petes to climb mountains with flames out the stack and 80 MPH.. but those are few and far between as it costs a lot to overhaul..

in a sschool bus you may be able to tune up your engine a bit and still maintain longevity as these engines are run very conservatively from the factory...

I don't think so.

The 5.9 MD & Ag engines do not have OBD ports. Nor do any of the 8.3 & 9.0 Cummins.

correct only the CONSUMER versions have OBD ports not the MD / HD versions... your pickup truck with a 5.9 OBD-II, your school bus with a 5.9 - J1708 / J1939

That is pretty much what I said in my first post. OP linked to the Dodge/Cummins version and I pointed out the link to the MD/Ag version using the J1708/J1939 version.
