Who's Bidding Against Us?!?!?
Don't know if you can see who is bidding against you on public surplus but wondering who is bidding against us. Our bus i was fighting bids with San diego and Atlanta. The Goldie bus was fighting same San Diego people and a Miami . If I had to guess both are exporters. Just seeing if anyone knows who it was or had to fight bids from same places.

When does the auction end? Stop bidding until the end. By bidding early this is what happens.

At insurance auctions the bidding is done usually less than a minute. They have a prebid but its kinda a joke. Alot people will put a lowball or there max to see if they get it. But watching the sales there are just a few places buying all these busses.

Buses south
As I was driving my newly purchased bus north from San Antonio, about ten pairs of hitched 40' flat nose buses were in the opposite lane headed south. Hitching two of those buses together made for a long vehicle, they must have had over sized vehicle permits. They had the south bound lane so clogged up the traffic was backed up behind them for a mile.

I saw this LOTS in texas and in florida in spring and fall.. exporters are loved because they tend to pay whatever it takes to get the busses they want.. if you happen to be bidding against them you'll lose.. Ive weatched exporters walk into a High-price florida bus dealer and just point at 10 busses, start them up turn them off and write a check...
exporters pay lots for navistar drivetrains.. parts are easy to get for them.. they seem not to go much for CAT / freightliner stuff.. and they usually dont seem to go for short busses..
but I agree with Marc, dont bid early, bid late.. you wont get sniped, the auctions extend on every bid (just like a REAL auction)..
although I bid early on my RedByrd. just to practice.. assuming I'd lose because i bid early.. and I ended up winning.. go figure.. LOL.

I got beat out on 4 buses before getting mine, and I didn't jump into mine until the last 15 minutes with first bid, and last minute with the winning bid. My auction was not auto extend time thankfully

I've gotten some outstanding bargains bidding often and early.
I've bid on at least a hundred buses I swear.
But If someone wants to pay more than I am willing or able to, then they can bid more than that amount. Which is what I bid as soon as I see something I like.
Different strokes for different folks.

I've gotten a RAD 1992 Ward Senator rust free and with DT466, 643, air ride, and it was $2150 out the door with fees.
I've gotten a 1998 AmTran CE with 444E and 545 short WC bus with lift and air ride and NEW tires for $1760 TOTAL.
My totally straight, totally rust free 2004 with DASH AC, rear ac, 215HP DT466, Allison 2000, and lots of new suspension/brake work came to $4000 and that one I was glad to pony up for and would do again.
Sure its got a problem. All navistars of that era can have this factory defect. Its why they have revised part #s now.
I haven't thrown away ANY money.
I sold two buses I paid less than four grand for and got over 11k cash.
I made money owning and enjoying buses.

ECCB sounds like you have got some good deals. My aggravating deal is fees. Last 2 busses almost 1k in fees.

He has a plan and he's happy with it. The dough you could save him is well-invested so far as he's concerned. Doesn't fit your plan, but the package of doing it his way and getting what he's getting is giving him what he considers sufficient value. Not sayin' you're wrong at all: just that he wants to play his cards differently.

id say those deals EC got on the ward and first Amtran were really good.. its hard to get ANY nearly rust free good running bus for under 2k... even the 4K for that shorty.. ive seen it and ridden it and its a fantastic bus even with its coolant issue (that by the way developed after its 1100 mile ride home)...
