Re: Who's the driver???

Both of us. I have only driven the bus in the campground but I was the only driver of our Class C except when I had my daughter drive it. If it was going to be hers then she had to drive it. I can learn to drive anything.

In my case the dog dictated the stops. She used that "I gotta pee.... again" look excessively. Now, David is hard of hearing. Sometimes it seems to be very convenient!

Seriously, I believe if you "RV" regularly with another person old enough to have a driver's license, then that person should be able to drive the bus. I believe it will provide two benefits. #1: You have a relief driver. This is a much safer way of traveling if you have to pull some long hours for whatever reason. #2: In case of sickness or injury, you will not be stuck on the side of the road or in a bad location because the "driver" is ill or incapacitated.

In our case, David has good days, okay days and bad days. This means he gets very tired very easily on his bad days. Sometimes he gets wore out just getting dressed. By having me to take turns driving, it lightens the load for him and if he doesn't feel up to driving and we have to travel, I have no problem driving the bus. I understood that I would be pulling a heavier load when David had his heart attack(s). I'm fine with that.

Also, David's family does not have a history of living as long as my family. My family routinely lives a highly active life to their upper 90's. David's family seems to be doing good to make it to upper 70's. I'm hoping David will not follow that trend. But he is 6 years older than me and while it doesn't seem like a lot, I've watched his health deteriorate enough over the years to know that I will most likely out live him. I don't ever plan on settling down in a house ever again. And I plan on "them" having to chase me down to pry the keys out of my hand! So I'm looking at becoming the primary driver at some point.

We're in a similar camp as Bansil. The wife has had a few "parking lot" experiences and now she wants to tackle the open road. Although she currently wants no part of the city driving.
She really does want to learn to drive the bus, especially for the safety sake that Lorna pointed out. It never hurts to have a second/back up driver if you can.

My uncle wound up close to 2 million OTR miles while legally blind!

After LASIK surgery, he no longer needs glasses to drive.
