Why so high?

Anyone have any clue why this went for so much at auction?
Public Surplus: Auction #1517660

I'd be interested in this configuration... but seems crazy high for the number of miles on it (plus, they listed the engine incorrectly... it's got 260hp).

there's another similar one listed now, but if these FE 40ft buses go for so much... I might have to change my plans.

I certainly wouldn't pay anything close to that price.
Someone got a little too excited, perhaps?

I would agree someone really wanted that bus.

Someone may have known something about that bus that made it special.

I have seen school districts dump lots of $$$$$ into a bus that was then sent down the road a year or two later. It may have over 200K on the odometer but it may only have a few hundred miles on the engine.

I once purchased a used bus that had an engine that had less than 5000 miles on it when I purchased it. That rebuild cost the district well in excess of $10K and I purchased the bus for less than $1K--it was some years ago.

If the bus doesn't have something special then someone got carried away. A bus with that many miles on it would have a listed retail price of about the same price if it was on a dealer's lot.

It's not someONE wanting the bus really bad. It takes two in an auction to drive the price up or in this case three. The three top bids were $7001, $8500 and $8600.

Sometimes they sell below reserve. If it's a great bus I'd say it's never a waste. I bid on dozens of buses till I landed mine.

It doesn't say the length on there but it looks like a pretty long bus from the pics. It also has the HD engine/trans and heavier axles/brakes. So somebody might have seen some value there with those options.

Basically, someone wanted it real bad. There was a bus with a half million miles that sold for something like $5k. I think that was in Blythe, CA.

that does seem high, unless the person that bought it knew it had new parts

FYI the guy I bought my bus from had just got back from deliverying a bus to the daughter of the guy who owned the bus company, it was sold the day before to her, brand new crate engine, transmission all new brakes and tires, sold to her for $2000/$2500

must be nice to be owners kids

He also said it would roast the tires from a stop
