Work Truck on GovDeals

I'm bidding on this project-
https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...42&acctid=6007

My latest GovDeals "find"... Its cheap enough I HAD to bid even if it needs a few repairs. Diesel and 4wd!
Would make a nice work/utility truck.

I saw that too and first thought it had a great roof rack/platform on it, haha.

"Diesel and 4wd!"

Ya...great platform. Me...I might go for a serious off-road camper set up.

If I lived a little farther south, I'd definitely be bidding against you on that!

4wd duallies are cool as hell.

Repair/replace the pumps, add a turbo and straight pipe to it, and slip a seat cover on the bench and you're ready to roll!

That's more or less the plan. Although its got buckets no bench. A quick trip to the junkyard will fix those seats!

Flatbed is the best way to do a dually, imo. I hate the way the beds look from the factory.

they are made with two different dually axle assemblies.
Narrow one to keep the overall width about the same as the body.
And the wide ass axle to install the pickup box.

Oh, wow. I hadn't looked at the interior pictures, just saw in the description that that vinyl was dry rotted. I feel like buckets in that generation of truck are pretty uncommon. I don't know if I've ever actually seen one before.

I agree that a flatbed definitely looks better on a dually. But the best option in my opinion is a service body. Still get the functionality of storage in the bed without having to strap things down, plus plenty of storage in the tool boxes, and no dually fenders sticking out.

That's interesting, I hadn't realized that flatbed was the same width as the cab until you mentioned that.

You should buy that one and get a K10 bed from a junkyard. Tub the bed and drop it on over the duals!

Custom Deluxe with A/C.. the dashplate on that alone is worth $$ to someone restoring one of those.. it was a really rare combo... I searched high and low to find that dash plate combo when I was resto-modding my 1980 and wanted to add A/C...

I think I'd put side opening tool boxes along the outer edges of the flat bed just high enough to put a slide in truck camper on top of them. Then you can use the truck for work or play as the opportunity presented itself.

Something kinda like this:

Makes me wonder if it was an ambulance at one point in its life. My hometown's first aid squad had an 86 Chevy like that (auto, though) with buckets.

Hmmm. I have a white 1 ton cab and chassis, SRW, TBI 350 and TH400 though. A diesel would be really nice in it though, though I'd want to put in a DTA360.

If I end up with this truck, a DT360 was my first thought.

mine started up after a month of sitting in constant below freezing temps, never plugged in too and a day after a 4 day stretch of constant -10 degree weather. The battery was so low or cold the horn didn't honk. lol. i was like, alright there is no way this things going to start, so i tried and it cranked right over. the worst part about it, it has 1/4 tank of diesel. my 5.4 in my f-150 wouldn't start because of a fuel issue that day even. Agreed the DT360 is a great engine.

Sounds like my DT466. It started on one battery in ten degrees after sitting for months. Icicles hanging inside it and all!
Fired right up.

If I buy this truck I'll be happy just to get it running and "decent".

If I put a DT in it then I gotta wonder how long the rest of the drivetrain is gonna hold up. IDK if I can open that can of worms.

You're looking at some stuff on that truck that's fairly desirable in the 205 Transfer case, 14 Bolt Full Floater, Dana 60 front. Biggest hurdle would be coupling it to the TH400. A stock DTA360 shouldn't break them, it would probably take a larger turbo and some very large injectors to break the drivetrain. It will probably be gear limited, I'd expect either a 4.10 or 4.56 gears, more likely 4.10 with the diesel since they didn't have many RPM.

I just checked the auction to see how much time was left and what the bid was at.

I also checked the bid history and realized one of the partially obscured user names looked familiar from some buses I was watching on there a while back. Are you the really long user name that starts with a "c" and ends with an "m"?
