Has anyone heard of Cummins 5.9 l engine failure in models between 1988 - 1998 and 1999 - 2002 models?
I'm curious if this is only a p.u. truck issue or if it affects buses too. To find the article on that, google "Cummins' fatal flaws" (skoolie.net would allow the URL to be posted).
Apparently a dowel pin can work loose over time and thoroughly kill the engine in those earlier engines (12 Valve) and a weak block can develop cracks and leaks in the latter ones ( '99 - '02).
It may be helpful to avoid buying used vehicles of that manufacture to avoid expensive repairs. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.
