Help appreciated! Looking to buy my first skoolie

Hi, All -

I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this post. I've been pretty interested in tiny houses and the van life for quite some time, but neither seemed like the right choice on it's own. Over the last two months I've been wildly into getting a bus to get my skoolie on - it seems like the perfect combination of tiny house/van life.

I've got a '96 bluebird international short-bus that can have my name on it at a moments notice but would like some advice from the forum.

Here are some specs:
Asking price: $5800
Engine: DT466
Transmission: Allison - still need to get a specific model
Mileage: 310,000 on the bus. Owner (bought it at auction) says that the engine was replaced at 190,000. Effective mileage being 120,000
Tires: Quite good
Frame: Amazing. Bus is in stellar condition, no rust (a desert bus).

My predicament:
I live in Santa Cruz, CA and the bus is in Las Vegas area. The seller said he would save the bus for me for $400 - this seems a little shady but, understandable, plus there are other potential buyers.

Here is the add: 96' school bus

I have a video of a cold start (owner says it was a cold start - gotta take his word for it). The engine looks and sounds great. I can upload the video as soon as I get a moment.

Did you get it? It looks like the ad is no longer there.

I ended up not getting it :|

I live in Santa Cruz, CA, and I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of making a skoolie and live in it full-time. I have a place in the mountains I could live in it in but I'm still flushing out more of the details.

That is the most popular engine. When you're looking again try and find another. The price sounds kind of high for that many miles even if it is rebuilt. The transmission is going to be rebuilt at some point before long

Yea that didn't feel right to me.

The right bus has a way of finding us in right time.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone! Going to keep looking, planning, and figuring full-time parking logistics.
