Update.
I found a tow for $350 flat rate and an entire rebuilt long block for $2095.
That will put me around $3500 for a bus with new tires and engine. That seems like a good start.

It’s name is Reese. I named it after my junior high bus driver James Reese.
We gave that man hell and he hung in there. I hope this bus is half as tough and reliable as James Reese was.

I called around today and the old tall deck 366 and 427 motors are getting scarce around here.
I’m patient. Something will turn up eventually.

Rust!

I had an idea it might be stuck so, was planning on soaking the cylinders down and try to break it loose.
After seeing this first plug I didn’t have any hopes.
I have no clue how it...

I’ll eventually pull the heads and try to do an inframe rebuild.
Meanwhile, I’m planing the floor plan.

1988 Thomas B60

I am looking at a ‘88 Chevy 40’ bus to convert.
It appears to be in decent shape, very good tires and body. It’s an auto transmission with air brakes and a big block. I’m not sure if it’s a 366...

Hopefully longer than your interest in it.

Re: What kind of fuel are you using?

Heat.

Maybe some #2 diesel also depending on how cold it is.

I've run an old cummins 6bt for 300K miles on wvo, Mecedes 617s on wvo for many thousands of miles. The key is good filtration...

Re: Brushing Oil Based Paint

I can't imagine painting a bus with a brush or roller. I used a cheap airless to paint my tractor a few years ago. Using a hardner helps with laying down a good coat without runs. Be sure to use a...

Re: 6 Volt Batteries...

Try to compare the weight of the two. Battery AH claims are all over the place but, weight is pretty much an indication of the internal plate size. If they weigh the same, go for the cheaper one.

Re: Newbie questions

I don't think this one would ever hit the governor unless it was a down hill run. I'd be happy with 65 mph if it would get there in a reasonable amount of time.
