clarification on hammer use...

I think I generally understand the brake system and the shoes...I'm just wondering about sensitivity and adjustment. How hard am I hitting the shoes (generally speaking, MMMV)--just a tap or a good...

Frozen (rusted?) brakes

Hi all,

I've been a horrible, bad, no-good person and left my bus undriven for six months. I did start it several times and let it run for a while each time but I know the lack of driving is a...

Tire update, a couple thousand miles in.

Just wanted to give an update on the tire situation now that I have some miles under my belt. I'll need to do another because I don't recall what I put on for the steers. I think I wanted to keep the...

Re: 1988 International 66 Passanger Bus Purchase

Nat,
That there is an excellent and succinct list. I wish I had it when I did my work, but we basically did the same minus some elements. Now, nine years later, we are thinking of a total reno and...

Re: Weight limits for the top of my bus?

I've never seen weight limits posted, but it's high.

I've had 30 people dancing on a wooden roof deck, all attached directly to the large structural roof ribs. I was way more worried about the...

Tire size and brand question: Move from 12R to 11R?

Hi all,
I'm in need of a new set of tires (my wallet just screamed a little). I only run about 3,000 miles a year, most is highway but some is on gravel roads.

I'm running very old Goodyear...

Solved! Re: On the road assistance--info, ideas?

Thanks for the suggestions, all. And to Frank for his sagacity and time! We pulled the filter, which had rusty looking sludge in it, replaced it with a new filter (always carry three, right?) and...

Solved! Re: The Lucinda Lowdown

Thanks to those on the drivetrain forum, we changed our fuel filter and problem solved. On our way!

BTW, the ATF problem earlier was fixed by a radiator rebuild. Apparently the water, oil, and ATF...

Re: On the road assistance--info, ideas?

I drained out a bit of fuel from the filter--didn't appear to have water in it. If I change the filter--I think I have one with me, but I've never done it--how do I not spill fuel in the exchange? I...

Hi all,
Branden with Lucinda (1981 bluebird All American, Cummins 555, Alison 545 (I think)) here, on the road home to Seattle from Burning Man. We've made it to Klamath Falls, Oregon and *may* be...

Cummins V555 9.1liter

Following up on the radiator/black smoke etc. thread here. The mechanic has said that the engine, minus an oil leak (valve cover) that is being fixed, is in good shape--clean and strong. I'm hoping...

Re: The Lucinda Lowdown

Thanks JAK, the t cooler in this case is internal to the radiator and doesn't seem to be failing now (no ATF in the coolant now). Their concern is that once they get in there to recore the radiator,...

Re: Cummins 555, but radiator and oil leak question

We're now looking for a new radiator, and the front engine/cummins 555 combination leaves little room up there. They are talking about $1200 for a recore, but the shops don't know what to do about...

Re: The Lucinda Lowdown

Smitty and Busbozo--the vaporizing transmission fluid is the mechanic's theory. They say they've found evidence of vapor leakage. I have no idea what the heck that might mean.

I don't think...

Re: Cummins 555, but radiator and oil leak question

Hi Frank,
Indeed I do need a mentor. I've got a 35' Blue Bird All American Front Engine with a Cummins 555 9.1 liter and Alison 545 (I think). GVW? Don't recall, 24-30Kish.

The triple nickel is...
