I think some of the TEC II TCM are part of the shift pad. I think it is likely that the TCM Is the shifter.

You better have a very sturdy workbench. Maybe adapt engine stand to hold transmission. A very good set of snap ring pliers. A service manual. A parts house that has all the parts.

I have a 1954 ford. I did exactly that. My little 1994 bluebird has dual air, with dual compressors…… that is part of the reason I bought this bus.

Telescopic ladder

I bought 12ft ladder used $50. The last four or five years, I rarely buy new stuff. I usually find things as good as new for 50% less than new prices.

the exhaust valve is the fragile point, then maybe the top of the piston.

piston engines in aircraft the exhaust is 1275* so think 1250* as a never to exceed number.

I like to see 900*...

That is the brake fluid reservoir. The side that is empty..... probably means you have a brake fluid leak.

I would encourage you to have this looked into by a competent mechanic soon.
