Re: New here. Here is my Bus. Dialup warning.

You can only use 20" tires. If it has 8.25 x 20s on it now, go to 9x20 or 10 x 20. You can't use singles on the rear. Reliably anyway. That's a cool bus!

Re: Newbie lerker here.

Get a good bus and do the basics. Mechanicals, seats etc. When you have a road worthy shell, think about what you really need. The bus I used to have was totally empty inside. I heavily insulated the...

Re: Transmission swap info

My old 51 IHC came with a 2 sp when it was new. 8.33 & 6.66. It now has a single gear 6.16. All the truck 2 sp I've seen are geared like this. I've never seen one with an automatic.

Re: TV Antenna

There is a good selection on Amazon. I'm looking too, but it's still pretty low on the list.

Re: Air Ride anyone?

Doc, Sorry I didn't answer your question. 1. It will cost a lot unless you very craftfully design and build it yourself. At least find the parts. 2. Anytime you are messing with truck suspension,...

Re: Air Ride anyone?

I am going to remove some leaves from my 51 IHC l160/Wayne and add airbags and shocks and a big anti sway bar. My rear gears are 6.16 and with the 7.50x20 dual wheels, rpms are too high at 50 mph,...

Re: Finally Bought Another Bus!

Great bus! Congratulations. Be warned, just because you own your home and property doesn't mean the town or county won't give you grief about anything they don't approve of. Like a bus in your...

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Or maybe just put a "HELP WANTED HARD WORKERS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY!" sign in your bus window. That will repel most urban zombies.

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Today I drove the bus 104 miles on 11.5 gls of gas. 9 mpg! Plenty of power from IHC sd240 six and 6.16 gears. Should get a little better when I replace the rears with 9 x 20 tires. Has 7.50s on it...

Re: 72 Crown Supercoach RV conversion

I would definitely change the shock bushings. While you are changing the bushings you can test the shock. Worn bushings can make thumping noises or worse. It will ride better with new bushings and...

Re: Let the converting begin!!

That is a great bus! My advice is to not get in a hurry and make hasty decisions.Keep all the windows you possibly can and don't build walls. Planning and fine tuning the plan, then refining that...

Re: 72 Crown Supercoach RV conversion

I like your bus. Sure would be nice to find a better spot for your spare tire. Or maybe just a better looking spare! Armour All that rubber beast and put one of those spinning hubcaps on it.

Re: What kind of milleage do you get?

My 1951 IHC / Wayne gets 8/10 mpg depending on conditions. SD240 gas. 4sp 6.16 gears. Soon I will have 5.70 gears and I will report. I once had one of those bug deflectors I put on a 78 Impala. It...

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Remember when Jethro turned the Clampett truck into a "spy" vehicle? Complete with ejector seat! He did have some good ideas.

Re: Start of my "new" bus build

Sitka, looking at your bus I see that swing up window is absolutely FLAT and rectangular. Therefore you can easily replace it with an insulated home replacement window with a stationary insulated...

Re: Start of my "new" bus build

Sitka, Yes I mean a screen for your big swing up window. With the struts on the inside folding as you close it [I suppose] you may have to remove and re install it when you want ventilation. A glass...

Re: Start of my "new" bus build

A full service glass shop can build any type of easily added or removed screen. Shop around. I built hundreds in my glass business days. Keep the foam and add fiberglass insulation over it. Then...

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Claydbal, Yes, I am tough but not as tough as I used to be. The '72 XLCH Sportster was HDs answer to the KZ900. Mine was up against the shed at a local HD repair and custom fab guys shop so I asked...

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

I don't play survivalist but I try to plan ahead for things I may or may not need. I would rather have something I don't need than need something I don't have. That's why there is a fire extinguisher...

Re: Fortifiying Your Bus Against Intruders Or Attack?

Claydbal, When I say "you" I mean the freedom loving bus dwellers and dreamers at large. Not you specifically with the politics. Hope that's clear. I too plan most trips into the hinterlands and...
