Re: Announcing our bus rally

We had a lot of fun even though not nearly as many buses attended as had originally indicated they would. We ended up with 35 buses, including 2 skoolies, 2 transits, a Gillig Wanderlodge, a...

Re: What does your bus really weigh? Building a bridge.

Regarding determining the weight of your bus - You can get it weighed by axle at just about any truck stop for $8-$12. Load it with stuff like you would normally have it, fill the tanks as you...

Re: Whats going on with this site?

We had a problem like that earlier this year on the BCM server. Investigating the logs found massive amounts of single hit traffic. The server admin installed "mod evasive" (an anti dos/ddos module...

Re: Skoolie on cover of Bus Conversions Magazine

Thanks for the positive review. I agree there is much in common between both types of bus conversion. My bus is a transit bus, which also tends to get sub classed by some coach owners. In my...

I full time in my RTS. Winter in Arcadia, FL and summer in the north Georgia/Chattanooga, TN area. I'll be back down in Arcadia right after Christmas. We'll be at Jack Conrad's Bussin' 10 rally in...

Skoolie on cover of Bus Conversions Magazine

As background, 3 months ago two partners and I purchased Bus Conversions Magazine from the previous publisher. One of the directions we are taking it is to get the focus back on self converted buses...

Re: Battery Bank!!! HELPPPPP

There is a LOT of good info on batteries on the page linked below, and at the end of it some good basics on the rest of the system:

Likewise, a lot of good...

Re: Air Conditioner Mounting Idea

It could well be that the styrofoam in mine is sheathing a metal panel as I didn't probe it or othewise challenge it. It does make me feel better about the durability factor. Thanks for the info.

Re: Air Conditioner Mounting Idea

I have a Frigidaire window unit and a GE. I haven't had the cover off of the GE, but the Frigidaire does use white styrofoam to separate the condenser and evaporator sides. Nothing fancy, just the...

Re: Air Conditioner Mounting Idea

I have just a couple concerns for you to evaluate as you think about it.

1. I presume the "exhaust" side (condenser grill) would be facing forward. If you intend to operate it while in motion...

Re: More zany ideas... compressed air and sleeping arrangements

A related idea would be to use a bicycle setup to power a generator to charge batteries with. You could even do both (one at a time). Have them both mounted all the time. On the air compressor,...

Re: More zany ideas... compressed air and sleeping arrangements

If you wanted to be able to use the bicycle compressor to do higher pressure, use a 5 or 10 speed bike as the foundation. The high gears will help you efficiently crank out high volume at lower...

Re: More zany ideas... compressed air and sleeping arrangements

I am really intrigued with the idea of and "excercise bike" approach to compressing air for the system. That is a very good idea I think.

I agree compressed air can work for pressuring the water...

Re: Wacky Idea For Heating And A/C

The 4 prong "50 amp" outlet (same as for an electric range), is 50 amps at 220/240 volt across the two hot legs. 50 amps at 110/120 volt between each hot leg and neutral.

Re: Wacky Idea For Heating And A/C

Just to clarify a point here. A "50 amp" park connection refers to 50 amps at 240 volts. This exists as two 120 volt legs whose waveforms are 180° opposed so that they provide 240 volts from one...

Re: Window Condensation in Cold Weather

I guess it all depends on the insulation. As I have described in other threads, I heavily insulated my bus. We full time in it and have had some nights down as far as 10 degrees. We have two of...

Re: alternative to PEX crimpers?

I haven't tried it myself, but a senior member on the MAK board found that the appropriately sized (1/2" or 3/4") electrical crimpers worked well and that he had no leaks on any of the connections...

Re: air conditioners in windows

Depending on the width of your bus, it might not be legal to have it extending out the side while driving. Even if it is within legal width, it could be asking for trouble. One idea would be to...

Re: What's the best way to strengthen the floor?

The heaviest thing I've got is a full size home style refrigerator/freezer. I would estimate about 400 pounds loaded. Weight comes down on the standard casters in the base, so it does put a fairly...
